Hi I'm a begginer windsufer just got into the sport and bought my gear within the last month. I've only rigged up the sail about a dozen times and already have a small tear appearing in the mast sheath near the top. Its probably from the strain of putting in the mast, just wondering if can buy anything like material to fix it before the tear gets unfixable, cheers Bec :)

You can buy sail repair tape which should do the job.
You shouldn't be doing any damage from rigging the sail... unless it is already damaged and it is catching when you rig up.
I work at Glascraft if you want to call in we've got sail repair tape in stock. I can also help you out with lessons if you want to get out there when its windy.
Good luck with the windsurfing... don't get too frustrated, its all good fun!

Thanks for the advise, Glascraft is where I bought most of my gear from. I took my windsurfing gear to QLD the other week and had a lesson at Coloundra on sunshine coast then practiced in the Marochydore river every second day while I was there. Also went out from my place in the ocean on sunday. I'm improving and having fun too bad about all the bruises. I'll have to come in early next week and buy stuff to repair it with, thanks :)

So what kinda of gear you got??? board sail etc. just interested to know... We're (me, the old man, and plenty of others im sure) are heading down to Goolwa this saturday and anyone there will be willing to give you a hand. It's a lot easier to learn on the lake, nice flat water and what not.

How many sessions have you been out for. Are you tacking and moving compentently or even further!!!

I've been out about a dozen times. Goolwa sounds like a good place to practice, I'm working this weekend so no go. I have a Starboard rio small with 5m sail, sail is so big but getting use to it. I'm moving ok, unsteady and practicing turning. I have to get used to the lingo before I answer that one about tacking, cheers Bec :)

dubious... its not uncommon to shove the mast up the sleeve, then have it quite happily tear a hole in it. You do need to be careful once the material gets tight.

Extremely uncommon!
I've never heard of anyone tearing the luff of their sail from rigging it up.
If the mast is fully engaged into the top of the luff sleave how can it tear a hole in it?
Mathew, you might want to try another brand of sail!

I spoke with her about coming down to Seacliff and maybe doing a lesson or two if you're interested.
