Hello all, I might be relocating to SA and would like to know the general suburbs to consider for windsurfing.

I have 2 boards slalom 86lt plus a wave RRD 68lt and loads of weed fins, as we get weed also in Perth and also good for going over cray pot lines at Ledge Point.

I like bump and jump and some smallish wave stuff if available.
Noticed the SA wavesailing comp - waves look good - know the location?

I checked out some of the seabreeze topics and looks like Glenelg / Seacliffe seems a hot spot. Can you sail all year round or seasonal and are their nasty sharks to fend off as we hear you get all the big white pointers down South?

Any info to help seek out a suburb watch list with my sport close at hand would be great. I would be working in the CBD of Adelaide, a 15-20 min drive to waters edge is not a drama.

North Haven

Thats ya metro beaches covered,

Seaford
Moana
Alldinga
Sellicks

Southern beaches covered

Down south, Middleton (where the SA wave titles was held)
Goolwa
Victor Harbour

There all the main spots,

We live up Blackwood way, nicely placed in the middle of all of them,

Is it all tea-bag kiters or is the traditionalist wind(pole)surfer prevailing in SA

Slalom sailing would be flat water yeah?

Snapper point at Alldinga on a full tide and a westerly wind is super flat and fun, just a few bumps depending on size of swell over the reef,

North Haven can be flat and fun with northerly winds, so I have heard,

Goolwa (down south - 1 hour drive) can be great fun for slalom styled sailing, also river mouth at Goolwa is good for that as well,

We dont get too much in the way of epic waves sailing, we have a usually flat conditions here,

Sellicks is also a good flat water spot,

thanks again - big help rather than spending hours of windsurf searching and false starts at the wrong location for specific wind direction.

This is definately warranting the Print Button for a hard copy.

on the Onboard shop website there is a location guide that has all the places and wind directions, I think this is also copied over on the windsurfing SA site as well. it is quite old but the info is still revelent, onboard have a banner on seabreze. come down and sail with us at robe and beachport for great wavesailing.

We will be in Beachport lunchtime tomorrow, staying just behind the motel!

Hoping for some wave and lake action,

I know the same place as usual near the tennis courts, will be there in the morning will catch up and have a sail, will show you the flat spots on the lake, weed is starting to be a pain at surf beach after a week of wind from the south, do you have a weedy.

thanks sharkbiscuit, the ONBOARD website is awesome, full of good data to process. Sounds like lots of good opportunities in Adelaide to get some 'wind in your sails' - I really was a bit naive to the extent of metro beaches and that also the weekend away trip with friends is an adventure worth looking forward too.

If you have been here over xmas new year you would have had the opportunity to sail just about everyone of the locations - but mostly B&J.

I actually feel like I need a few days off from sailing as I have sailed every day bar 1 since before xmas.

Looks like continuing for a few more days yet.

The added bonus is sailing in boardies and a rashie - how nice is that.

Good luck with the move - and don't worry too much about wave size as 2 to max 4ft is the norm for around here.

I have lived one house back from the beach @ largs bay (between semaphore and north haven for 20 yrs and so am spoilt ( average 30 -45 each summer )
as a rule I use a 4.7 -5.8 on bump and jump gear (too rough for sharp rails)

northern beaches are 5- 8 knots windier than southern in summer. southern beaches are windier in winter

we get northerlies twice a year sept - oct and late april to may
and north haven in behind the beakwater is the go

I no longer sail in winter (too infrequent fo my age range)

I am used to sharing with up to 20 kites and they dont bother me as they dont venture out too far and a good wind barometer (also makes me feel fast) ha
aslo one tack and jetty foils them and so you are on your pat malone
