hi all, dropping a line to let anyone interested know my thoughts on the present model 105 cube. I weigh around the 100 kg mark depending on beer consumption for the week and i have been sailing a goya 118 quad for 2 years . Most of my sailing is at margaret river or the carnarvon goat farm. I bought this board as a board to sail on windier days . First impressions when i picked it up were how short it was and wether or not because of the length it would be suitable for me if the wind backed off which it does often here. Wrong, wrong, wrong! The best plaining board i have ever sailed. This thing only has to look at wind and its off. Just turn the nose downwind slightly and one pump on the sail and away. It carries this plaining thru lulls with ease and i have found myself using it on our most marginal days. Even when dogging around swearing at the kites once in front of a wave one pump and its away. I have been sailing it with up to a 6 meter sail with no concerns, although with the bigger sail i have been moving the mast base back a bit as i found the nose sinking a little when not plaining. Okay, moving on as after all it is a wave board and how does it go on a wave. Answer is really good, it almost turns itself. I have traditionally been a front foot sailer and this board seems to handle both front and back foot bias with ease, it really is a fun board to ride. So far i have had it out in conditions from 2ft to almost double mast and for me at my weight handles things really well. I say this because it is a wide board in the tail and if someone lighter bought it for a real light wind board i wonder if it could get a little bouncy over cross chop and foam. Okay , so is it perfect, well nothing is. For me I'm going to chuck the fins supplied and upgrade for two reasons. The first is I'm not sure what quatro and goya are thinking but the red fins it comes with are so soft they look at sand and start to fall to pieces. Better move on this one boys as a lot of people are saying the same thing. The second reason is for me the fins are simply not big enough and i have found myself sliding sideways when i really crank my top turn. Quite fun on small days, not much fun on a 6 ft plus margies wave. But easily fixed and not a board problem. My other little wish would be for the footstraps to be a tiny bit closer together as I've got stumpy legs and even with the staps as close together as possible there stretched out.This doesn't effect how the board turns on a wave but i often find myself feeling a little bit uncomfortable. My other problem with the board is that its so good in lighter conditions that i would love to try the 95 as my high wind board but the manager of finances might not be too happy at present! Conclusion , i loved my goya 118 and am definitely keeping it for a back up. The cube 105 is the most fun board that i have owned, i would recommend it to anyone around my weight that wants to be up with the pack and getting heaps of waves and then having a blast on them. Ps i have no affiliation with quatro or goya , this is a 100% unbiased opinion.

I have the 95L Cube and think it's a great board. Very sure footed in big bottom turns, handles bouncy conditions better than it should with that big square tail. Early to plane with a little bit of active sailing (point off the wind, pump and "push" the board with my legs and off it goes).

I'm only 80 kg, but I live in a light wind environment so I have the Cube 95L as my "high" wind board and the Goya Custom Quad 116L as my regular wind board. I use 4.7-5.5 with the Cube (the 4.7 gets used once a year, the 5.2 twice and the 5.5 maybe 3-5 times a year), and a 6.1 and 6.7 with the 116L. I use the 6.1 <10 times a year and the 6.7 >30 times a year.

Only negatives of the Cube 95L are the 5.5 is a bit on the big side for it, and there is no dawdling allowed when tacking.

The 116L Goya is also a real beaut, way better than the 118L Goya Custom Quad I had before. Having sailed both back to back the newer board is both easier to turn and earlier to plane. I always felt I was too light to turn the 118L Goya, but I enjoyed utilizing its volume with a 6.7. The new 116L still floats me like the Queen Mary, but I can turn it like a much smaller board.

Hi Uweh ... interesting review ... Have you got any way of measuring the depth of the board under the mast track ... curious how think (floaty) these are for their compact size in this bigger model .... (can be done with 2 straight edges , and getting an identical distance either rail side = depth ...) ... cheers

I'm using 16.5 Black Project rear fins with 8 cm thrusters on the 95L Cube, and 18 cm G10 MFC fins with no thrusters on the 116L Goya. Agreed with the original poster that the red MFC fins that comes standard should be tossed in the trash. They last about 5 sessions on a sandy beach, and less than 1 session on a pebbly beach.

haven't measured the thickness as yet but sailed [floated] it the other day in 10-12 kts with my 6 mtre and it stayed up well and once again as soon as i got in front of a wave one pump and away on the apparent wind to enjoy the super clean up to mast high sets that the kiters very kindly let me take.Measured against guys i have been sailing with for a long time i am definitely holding my ground on the floaty days as well and probably better than ever , coupling that up with the smaller length and volume and the way this board turns on the wave i am a happy camper. I was really worried that due to the short length that it would be hard work in these conditions but have been pleasantly surprised. Im going to put a set of black project 16.5 with the size 11 sides on and see how they go. A guy i sail with a lot has been playing around with sizes and has really improved the grip on his board by upping the size of the side fins.

Thats a bit harsh. I have 2 seasons on them with zero wear. Maybe I stop sailing before the sand ......


Further, there was a batch issue where some cracked about 2-3yrs ago, I asked the question and immediately had a new set supplied even when out of warranty. Goya / MFC are GREAT like that.
