OES shaper Peter Ross lent me his new 112 L to try

- first thoughts- thats not a wave board its a whale, but maybe i can do a bit of float and ride
- second thoughts after sailing it- Rossy you aint gettin it back- how does a 112 go so good?
- third thoughts, doubled my sailing time, lost 5kg, found light wind= best waves

picture tells a thousand words; thanks to Dave Lane for splicing up some recent footage
- all waves i get on the blue sail (blade pro=sick) is on the OES 112 HR and first couple of my waves on red sail 112 HR also

check

(anyone know how to embed?? please do)

big fat board
big fat boys
big fat fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldnt believe a 112 could work so good on the wave- Rossy explained its basically same rails, rocker, outline as smaler OES Hot rods, just 6cm wider- so long as you keep the board on the rail the board and the wave dont know its a fatty; Rossy calls it the vespa theory.
Footage is small stuff, 112 rips on bigger days too, frothing at giving it a run on SAs west coast this summer

discaimer- yes I am 100% an oes fan- yes i have a lot of design input on my oes boards; yes Rossy knocks a few bucks of my boards, but i always buy the best boards i can, also have other brands and not into selling my soul for 5%off and calling a dog a ferrari.
Also have in past been very frustrated with production boards that look like wave boards but are IMO detuned and optimised for sailing on a lake in europe.
In Oz we are blessed to get good waves- IMO gotta get a proper wave board from our gun custom builders to really start having fun

Looks fun Maris,

Can you give us some more detail on the specs please, length and width mainly, but thickness and weight if you have it.

Also what size sails are you using on the Blade pro and blade?

Cheers.

Oh yeah, and how much do you weigh? sorry if this is a sensitive topic

nah thats Rossy
diet of meat and protein pills and excessive body building does that. he cant figure out if hes the rock or rollins

i have been 90-95 kg for years Daz but this winter dropped to 85-90. seriously only thing i can put it down to is a lot more time on water in light winds.

all hot rods are a shade under 7 foot. 112 is about 66cm wide. full specs ask rossy/check oes site. Boards run around mid 6kg range- i was always at Rossy to pull more weight out of them because they were so strong so he could afford to (thats why i like severnes cause they are so light)- but now i reckon hes got the strength/weight balance just right. not uncommon to see 5++ year old oes boards on the west coast ridden hard by big fishermen/farmers. boards feel light, but settle nicely on the wave, good impact resistance and strength.
that flame spray board Cain's lugging on his head is the original 83 Hot rod (great board -shapes have developed a lot since then)- its a few years old now and is in real good nick.

re sails- if its off/x off - which is middleton winter- i never use bigger than 5.0 even in 5 knots. Love blade prop 5.0- thats the blue one
when x or xxon and looking for more drive i use 5.3.
112 would handle a 5.7 ok for onshore cruising but im not into that. i d rather find a wave to ride with offshores or x shores

Hey Maris,
Will you have to get a bigger plane to fit the quiver in now?

No doubt Maris, custom is the way the go and there are only a few left and Rossy builds a good one.

I guess you haven't tried out a Goya 118... I have no affiliation with Goya but I can tell you that board has nothing to do with Lakes in Europe. Quite the opposite it's as pure a wave board as it gets.

On a different note awesome video. Where was that shot? Looks like Gerroa in NSW but opposite tack. And yes agree 100% Australia as some of the best wave sailing on the planet and is the most underrated windsurf destination at the moment.

Cheers for all the info Maris. I'll check em out. Nice work on the slim down program, I'll have to add a few more light wind wave sessions to my weight loss regime

shame you are nt building any more Scotty..............your Tuna was the original super light wind wave board
and Batesy absolutely rips on it- he loves that board. its all curves- rocker, rail and planshape- can see why it loves to gouge.
would that be 120+L??
Hoops' nudes are great boards and i rode an SSD at the spot last year which was awesome. interested to try goya 118
spot is middleton- everyone says it looks like gerroa- but only really on vid when it pulls the point closer-
Dave does amazing vids and does make it look a bit more exotic than perhaps it is most days if u know what i mean

Hey Pete.
Been getting some days on the new quad Hot Rod 74 . Board is teaching me things. Really enjoying it and have been riding it exclusively. 3.8 - 4.6. 4.2 and below is really sweet. Handles slog conditions well being pretty small board. It is a short board surfboard. I have never been able to put a windsurf board where I can put this one. I hit 2 turns today that were memorable. The first was a full vertical straight up attack at a barreling section. Nailed it and felt an incredible acceleration as I split the lip. The second turn was a full wrap off the top bringing the nose all the way back to the whitewater. I broke the fins out and had the board drifting down the face. As I started to weight the opposite rail it caught for a split second and I thought I might go down but a quick transition to weight on the back foot and the board came right around in control for the next turn.

Insane potential on good powerful waves.
Hopefully get some pics soon
Stoked!

hey Yuppy

middleton in South Oz,
like Zak says between victor and goolwa on south coast.
lotsa fun
typically winter spot, but on yesterday - el nino maybe?

re Rossys bit from Russ Faurot- Russ rolled Jaeger at the Aloha classic on his new oes
which was a great result- especially after Russ got smashed on the rocks halfway through the heat.
Russ is a really nice guy, quiet achiever lives on Maui and absolutely loves his windsurfing.
Awesome PWA result for Jaeger, SSD and severne too btw
