hi is anyone using a new 2010 loft lipwave sail as I am currently in the market to get my quiver in order I have N/P combats & do mostly onshore wave sailing. I am not being tight but notice a massive price difference, so I am wondering performance and quality before I purchase.I want some real advice not shop talk.cheers

Not the 2010's but I have had the 2008's and 2009's. 2009's in my opinion were better (although the 2008's were good), slightly better shape, improved batten tensioners and a little more range.

You can set these sails full with a bit of outhaul for onshore grunt or downhaul 'em to make them better for DTL or freesailing.

Problems I find with them are few and far between - however:

1. The velcro at the bottom of the sail (to aid rigging) can separate whilst on the water. Not a major problem but a little annoying.
2. Due to the unusual "sensitip" (or is that NP?) at the top of the mast, the sail ends up a little crumpled.
3. They probably aren't the lightest of sails. On the flip side, I've never had no repair a Lip in the last 3 years I've been using them. Apart from a luff tear after being introduced to the reef at Toowoon Bay!

That's my un-biased review, but I will point out that I have only sailed Gun/Loft and second hand sails in the last 6 years so can't compare to NP/Sailworks/Goya etc. When people have used my Lips they seem to like them.

Not sure if that was useful or not! In summary, great sails, but you will probably find a NP more refined...

I've had a few lofts including a 5.7 Lipwave '08, I believe there were a few quality issues earlier on with the manufacturers but as for performance, in my opinion Monty Spindler is a sail designing legend. His shapes (non-cam sails) have a nice feel, a large tuneable range and breath well in the gusty stuff. I've got a few different brand sails and the Lofts are my favorite. As for value for money, I doubt you'll find better.

Hi rico, cant comment on 2010, but Crash Landing '08 Lips are still going well for me (cheers crash).

Just learner wavesailing small stuff on sandy breaks, but no holes after 1001 decent catapults. Sure they're starting to get a bit crispy just on the top leech ends, but any mono would. As for power/range, i'm still refining pumping, rigging and all those stance things, and have only sailed a Gaastra freeride and Gun wave sail previously, but they seem good to me.

I wouldnt pay the difference for a new wavesail to get the pricey brands version. Hope that helps

I sail in Port Philip bay so not 'waves' as such. I have a 3yr old 5.2 Lip wave and I love it. Great tuneability, great feel and strong (no problems yet). My 4.7 combat is just as tough but maybe does not have as great a wind range as the loft. If I had to get a new 4.7m sail I would have no hesitation in getting the Lip wave.
