Hello, I am after a new sail to replace my NP 6.7 Supersonic that is at home. It's to be used with a Carve 99 on a 430 mast with 60cm extension and a 200cm boom. I'm looking for something as big as possible that will rig on that kit. I'm about 85kg and like flat water blasting.

I've spoken to two local stores and the three that have been recommended are the:

NP 6.7 Hellcat 6.7 that has a luff of 459 and a boom of 198. it's designed for a NP 430 mast.

Naish 2008 Sprint 6.6 that has a luff of 458 and a boom of 196. It doesn't spec a mast but is too small for a 460 so I guess is designed for 430.

North Natural 6.6 that has a luff of 465 and a boom of 202. It;s designed for a 460 mast.

The Nash and North are about 650-700 new and the NP is 900+!

Is the Pryde worth it or is the Naish any good?

I have a sprint 6.6 and it rigs sweet on a 460 with zero extension, for a non cam sail it goes fast, can beat all the cammed sails aroud here. Pumps up on the plane super easy, havn't tried it on 430 but couldn't see it being a big problem, highly recommended for flat water blasting if looking at non-cammed option, good price too.

If the mast is a NP then go for the Hellcat. It's important to match mast and rig. All sails work best on the correct mast. Don't put a 430 in a sail that requires a 460. You'll be disappointed.

I agree with Vando. I have the Loft 02 7.4 and the 5.9, and I rig them both on my NP 460 mast. The 7.4 is sweet with the 460, but the mast is a bit stiff for the 5.9. Having said that, it is a super versatile sail, and the 5.9 was very controllable in yesterday's 25 knots with some gusts over 30.

Take your mast into the shop and rig the sails with it. Whilst it is easy to just use the recommended mast with sails it is far from gospel- just look at the pwa guys in the past. Most freeride sails such as the sprint and natural are designed to be not as mast specific as a full on race sails. The sprint in particular I have seen perform well on a variety of masts (and they are certainly a quick sail).

Simply... no the hellcat is not worth $250 more than the north or the naish.

You can't assume the mast that worked with your supersonic will work with the new prydes as NP played around with some different mast curves in that period.

I had to leave my 460 in the UK. Thinking about it I used to use it for my supersonic 6.7 and upwards. The 430 and 390 I have here is a french brand that outside france nobody has ever heard of. It's pretty light and about 60% carbon I think.

I have seen a used 2006 NP RS6 that sounds a good bet and also a 2008 KA 6.4 Kult that is a good price. Any thoughts on these as they will both rig on the 430 quite nicely?

I also have a 6.6 Sprint 07 and it rigs on a 460. It's a really nice sail. Very tunable with good top end.

Be carefull the RS6 are very mast specific.

Steer clear of the race sail, it ultimately will make your sailing less enjoyable unless you want to get a full on slalom board and enjoy spending the extra time and effort rigging.

Rig the sails on the mast first, just because the sail fits on a 430 is not a good indication.

KA sails work like any other (some of their sails are quite nice) but if you are going to change sails within the next couple of years that cheaper price you pay is reflected in significantly cheaper resale.

I use my 430 matrix 2000 NP mast on a 2008 hellcat 6.7 and find it goes pretty well once powered. I picked the sail up second hand - used twice (looks brand new) for ~$430 in April. I'm looking to upgrade to a x9 mast shortly. It is pretty handing only needing one mast for 5m to 6.7m.

I am using Loft O2 freerides (6.6 and 7.4) on a Neil Pryde 460 mast and they rig fine - in my opinion.

Great sails and cant beat them for value for money.
