Then I tried the Select Antiweed 39 and got such a nice response from it...
Faster to plane. A great feel for the foot steering. Easy to go up-wind...liked it instantly.

I was keen to buy it when I heard a loud crack...


So I'm keen on a new fin now. I'm a bit concerned over another Select, I haven't hit anything when it broke. Also the Antiweed doesn't seem available any more.
So I'm loking for an equivalent fin.
Should I still get the Select "Weed Eliminator" or go to Choco or Jp...

The fin is for a 115 FSW board with a 7.5m sail.

Any advice from experience sailors would be appreciated.

Re-box it & it will probably be the same size as the JP Weed, then you can do a proper comparison.
I suspect the Select worked better purely because it was bigger.

The old fin didn't work as well, is because it's go no where near enough area in the tip due to it being so worn.

IMHO any fin will perform light years better than that old JP thing.

Any new weedy will work ok. i would steer clear of the selects as they are not G10 and will wear out quicker and are not so flash.

Brands you can get in WA that are great straight off the shelf are

yea stay away from those select fins if you want to go above 25 knots, not sure if it should be said but for me and my sailing rubbish to a point where they shouldnt be made, but they are really cheap, and whack some carbon on the out side and you have an okay fin....

sorry if i dont like, just really bad experience that wasnt needed

Not sure if it should be said either but have to agree. Any pressure above 28 knots and they go into semi spin out. Must be too flexi. I'm thinking maybe an upright fin can flex and still hold its angle of attack. On a weed fin a bit too much flex and all is lost. A layer of carbon all over sounds a good idea.

well the select fins are plastic which isnt a bad thing as it makes it very cheap but only good for say up to 25 cm of fin, a 42cm plastic fin isnt stiff enough

Contrary to all the good advice (however only as a temporary measure) I purchased the same Select fin.

Reason 1: The fin I broke was not mine, and although I offered a compensation for it, and it was generously refused, I'll give it back once I get a better fin.

Reason 2: the fin actually worked for me.

This is a temporary measure, and I'll be looking for a carbon fin as well.

By the JH2703 we are working on quads and tri fin packages and they will be available in 2012 ... also weed ones for quads

Yeah Jh2703 ! I am glad the fin made it fast and you could try it soon. Thanks for the good feedbacks .. indeed the mano tracks really well and it keeps your board alive too unlike many other weed fins !

The idea of moving the fin forward in front of the box is to keep the center of effort as close as a regular fin so you dont feel you need to change your body position and that is why many people are keeping the MANO's as their regular fin. The water line also on the board remains close to a regular straight forward fin. Fins that are not moved in front with a rake of 40 degrees or more displaces the center of effort back and that keeps the board lower in the water with more resistance and boards with rocker like FSW really suffer from that. (notice the water line when you are planning with your reg weed fin and your regular fin... with reg weed fins it will move closer to your front straps) This is waht we want to prevetn with the NAIA (freemove weed), Mano (wave weed) and the HALALUA (blade weed)

If you are using a US BOX with a weed fin place your fin as far in front as you can in the box. The only problem is that now board makers are making the us box so small you cant even move your reg fin more then a few cm ! They really dont think of all of us who ride in weedy areas. The US box dont allow us to make the fin going over the board like the TUTTLE and POWER boxes.
