I ridden this combination 9 times now. It would the best early planning bump and jump kit I've ever ridden. The board plans off in 13kts of wind using the small swell and wind combined. Once planning it stays on the plan a bit like the old hypersonics did. 9 times now since 29 nov 2008 it has given me a great days sailing where I would otherwise sat on the beach.
A couple of sailors have test ridden this board with their own sail and with mine. All come in with a big smiles on their face remarking how quickly it plans up and how it handles like a wave board. What more could you want.
I've been able to jump it and ride small swell with it. It doesn't turn as fast as a small wave board, but handles a lot better than I ever expected. When allowed to run out it turns on a great speed, much faster than the old Kombats or aeros.

The Pryde Excess outshines the expressions I used to ride in the past. A lot smoother and softer. Tons of bottom end. Here
is what is looks like.
Anyone who wants to test it can at Queens beach. Just ask me.

Bill thanks for the test drive, don't know if the budget will stretch to another board but if it could then that combo would be on the short list

I will verify for the listeners what an awesome board the Kode is. I have only ridden it in underpowered marginal conditions and it went like a rocket. High on my list of potential xmas presents for the less financially challenged.

I've been riding the Kode 94 since August, if the 112 is as impressive to ride as the 94 i can see why you are enjoying your board.
Starboard have done a great job with the Kode's, they Plane early, are fast, jump really well even in flat water and Gybe brilliantly, i can push the 94 as hard as i want into a gybe and it loves it, even used it in light wind surf conditions, they have everything you want from this style of board.
And as you mentioned they feel alot smaller than they are which is a major bonus.

I'm stoked with them

Yet again this board saves my bacon.

Today 21 jan The wind on the internet for Redcliffe beacon 20knts NE. Get the beach for a quick 1 hour run and the wind meter shows 16, then 14 , and then UUUUh 12 ktns and a lot of east. That is where it hovered. Not enough for the 6.2 so on goes the 112 Kode and 7.4 Excess. Dredge 20 meters out and then planning. Amazing early planning ability. Planned non stop other than a short bit if I got to close to the beach for the hour.
Another great afternoon not sitting on the beach.

I'm a little interested in the Kode also. Maybe the 94l. My only concern is the fin box - being US. Magazine test reviews and reviews from everyday sailors though seems to be great however.

On the 94 Kode you don't need to run to big of a fin, the 28cm fin provided is the biggest you will need so the us box works fine, also it give you the option of tuning your board a little more with fin possitions.
