I have the new 09 catalogue in my possession now and it has some great news for those interested in the new models.

The Isonic range is only slightly modified so nothing radically different to disturb the performance, but there are some exciting features for helping boost the control of these boards at top speed. The sizing remains the same from 76 ltrs and for those looking at full speed potential there is the addition of the 3 new Albeau inspired speed boards W44, W49 and the W53.

The wave boards retain the same sizes as last year apart from the welcome addition of an EVO 66 to replace the 62, but there are new refined shapes for the 70,74 and 80. Plus the new evil twin in 75 and 80 ltrs.
The Kode combines the acids and kombats into one range but with the distinct break between wave (68,74,80) and freewave (86,94,102,112,122) boards.
All the wave boards have 2 screws to lock the straps in place and prevent screw shear and strap twist.

The futuras' have the I-sonic rocker for speed and an adjusted tail for better gybe control and come in the same sizes as last year, 93, 101, 111, 122, 133, 144.

If you like the starboard grapics you will appreciated this seasons look as it is very smart, bold and a smooth progression from last year.

With so much interest in the new ideas this season should be a winner as there as never been a better range of gear on the market to choose from.

Those boards in the pic are just protos and the new boards are the same thickness as last years.

Definately part of the Fin cover. We saw the final products at the Starboard Distributor conference. Fast Looking Boards.

Hello Jez,

What can you tell me about the Futuras in the 133 - 144 range. Are them any different? Wider? Thiner? Changes to the tail cuts?

Also, are the largest Kodes (112, 122) any different from the just recently remodeled (and now discontinued) Kombats? What is the design bias comparing the Kombats and the Kodes?

it is probably easier if people think of the kode as simply the acid and kombat range under one name. Ie the kode 68,74,80 are acid wave boards while the 89,94,102,111,122 are kombats. the name change just allows for one range to market, and simplifies the total range of boards.

As for each board specifics - each model has been slightly tweaked as you would expect, for a new season.
The 89 and 94 kodes are slightly changed from last years in the rail profile and have only slightly different tail and main widths. Star have tried to keep improving the freestyle potential of the larger kodes without detracting from the great freeride crossover appeal it has.
The 89 will also make a good wave crossover for the larger sailor wanting a one board option under 100ltrs.

The smaller kodes are straight forward traditional wave boards still offering that full down the line speed potential for real good waves and also great bump and jump appeal in flatter high wind areas. Proven shapes with refinement.

With the futuras there has not been any big changes to the concept or major shape changes. What has been modified is the tail area between front and back strap. Star have put more curve in the outline to help with gybe entry and carving ease.
There is not much more to say at this stage without regurgitating the brochure speak. The guys that rode the 133 in Thailand said that the 133 was a winner in that it got going very easily and yet felt like a smaller board once up and going and it had a fast feel to it much like the isonics with a softer ride.

Thanks for the info Paul! I am considering a Futura (133 or 144) as a new largest board for my quiver to replace a JP Free Race 136. The 133 is equivalent in width to what I got today, though I feel like going bigger (144) to extend the low end limit while still keeping away from the Formulas. I am looking forward to checking on the 09 collection as they get to the market.

Regarding the Kodes, I was actually concerned with the "depreciation" of my recently acquired Kombat 114 '08. It's an amazing board, it's a pitty to have it looking "old" due to discontinuation of the model. :-)

So is this pic the W44 or W49? Is the max sail size for the W53 still quoted as 7.5M?
