Hi , anyone unglued / reglued the clips specifically on an enigma ? ..... I want to cut the arms down slightly ... (higher winds / and smaller kid size sails ... Heat treat to break adhesive ? did they come off ok ? . thanks

Speaking for Chinook, we use the same clips but they are heated to press fit - no glue, & remove the same way.

Yes done a few but need to be knocked off with a hammer sometimes so if you're wanting to reuse them a soft aluminium or wood dowel etc drift is definitely advisable.

What Mark said. Hit mine pretty hard.
Can wrap around inner tube (did I mention I love inner tubes ;) ?) and use channel locks to twist around while gently tapping on them to little by little slide them out. Use penetrating oil.

how did you get on? I tried to find a link for a video on how to do this, but could not find one. I one to take 10cm of my smallest race boom to better fit a 5.0

Hiya - yep they came off really easily actually - haven't cut arms and drilled yet tho - wanna wait till lots of time and do it properly as busy at mo ) ....

At first - tried twisting off with inner tube and an adj oil filter tightener - no good - then really careful with grips - no good , then hammer light taps and something blunt ..... no good .....

......then found a a bit of deck wood with an angled cut on it - - placed the angle sloping down onto clip edge , with at least 10mm contacting edge - and stood on boom arms on carpet - came off really easily .... just a few light taps with hammer ... (much relief - as had visions of fckn up an expensive boom ) .... Just now have to cut - very carefully drill some new arm holes .... and might also drill another hole nearer boom head on tailpiece so it can go 2cm less - loads of space on tailpiece - will stuff more foam inside if foam not that far down ,...

So now - I will cut a 150 enigma down to 140 (so I have the wide tail for smaller sails) ..... and I will cut a 140 down to 130 ish - for my lad and his small sails (want him on a reliable boom in waves - nothing kids alloy that will snap at some point) ....

The Enigma 180 - 230 boom i bought off Premo a few months back i cut 61 cm off the extension leaving only a 15 cm back end with no clips. You do not need clips with the extension pushing against the boom arms.

It only fits my 5.6m.

I cannot use it on a sail with more than a 180 clew but should still work well on my 5m but not yet tried.

A massive saving of 500g losing the clips and extension. 2.8kgs including lines.

Feels rock solid. My previous Maui carbon 170 -230 feels like a toy by comparison. Not sure its any faster just a very different feel.

The front end of the Enigma boom is far and away the best ive used which i think adds to the super solid feeling you get.

I have the two double pinned things which kept getting stuck. Free if anyone needs one.

Tried the boom today with my 5m but was 20 cms too long but still works great and the feel was really solid.

Getting a NP X9 140- 190 for my 5m.

Will need around 20 cms of extension so will probably not feel quite as solid.

I do not rate thinner diameter arms at all. The feel is less solid. Great for women and juniors with small hands.

Longer booms tend to have larger diameters though the older booms are mostly standard diameters on all sizes.

Hopefully i like the NP if not i can always sell it.
