Hi
The ferrule in my Severne Red rdm mast isn't straight, how much of an issue is this, is this likely to effect sail performance significantly? Is the mast more likely to fail?

There is a kink in the mast straightness at the assembled joint. I thought I was going mad to start with!
Has anyone else seen this?
(Used 12 times, not left rigged etc)
Thanks

I had the same problem with a different brand (although I reckon they manufacture them in same factory only rebadging them). Pain the ass. My thoughts were always there while sailing. So I threw the bottom with the ferrule and left the top. What a relief. My other masts- less than 100% carbon- are ok so far. Btw this occurred on the longest mast in my quiver -370.. 100 % carbon.. maybe a coincidence

That would be a noticeable bend in the mast . It's a tuneable mast

Mast will be fine, it may be slightly stiffer with certain alignment or softer, seen a few like that and been fine for years

It looks like in the top pic , that the square is not against the mast like in the bottom pic . this will give an angled look.

No the engineering square is flush against the mast. As you twist turn the mast you can clearly see the angle/gap get smaller then larger.
repeated many to times.
(I have repeatedly bored friends who were engineers with it!)

I've got a 5 year old mast that's similar. It's my most used mast. It's nothing to worry about.
Now that I've said that I'll probably break it tomorrow.

Forgot to add get rid of the rubber plug, helped a few people trying to get their masts apart but that plug makes it nearly impossible.

I'd say if it was like that from new , it's probably OK.
If it was straight when new , I'd be very worried.

(9 sessions max 20 deg ~4hr de-rigged)"the issue in question emerges when the mast is exposed to prolonged tension and high temperatures."

I think it was manufactured like that.

Get it replaced. If its new and within warranty, they should give you a new one. Its 2023, we shouldnt have to put up with stuff like this. The red mast looks like their most expensive RDM as well.

My friend had his gorilla2 mast bent similarly, but only the narrow part. It happened because he did not connect the mast pieces together properly, had 3-4cm gap, he didn't recognize while rigging and used wrong settings instead.
We applied heat with heat gun and then sit in the middle for a minute while masts were not connected properly, connection opposite direction of the bent, did that several times and it worked, mostly straightened.
Check the bottom part of your top mast piece too, if there is olso a bent there, maybe that was the couse for you too.
