Has anyone tried using the Reflex rdm cam option now available on older sails? Toying with buying a 5.6 Reflex R3 but only if the cams will fit and work. Have tried emailing Severne and the UK importer and not had an answer!

Any experience of this appreciated!

Hi Quicktime,

The RDM cams are only for Turbo and Overdrive conversions, so unfortunately it does not look like the Reflex 3 will be the right sail for your current situation.

The Reflex sails use a different system of cams which are much larger and come in 3 different lengths. As yet, there is not much interest in an RDM conversion for the Reflex range.

you can see the three lengths of XL cams on the left, while the two types of cams used on the Turbo and Overdrive are on the right..

You should be able to get a Reflex 3 fairly cheap, so if you felt like a project it would be possible to fabricate some cams to fit an RDM.

Thanks

Many thanks for the detailed reply, would make more sense to keep my eyes open for a later overdrive in a similar size!

QuickTime,
Check out he current 90% mast, they are affordable and give a great performance.
Having an overdrive sail you might want to actually size down one size due to low wind power of the overdrive. A 5.1 OD might be just right for you.
