I'm 90-95kegs and have the 99V2 Pyro as my light winder, general blasting board up to 20knts. I've ridden the Pyros since the first release and have an 87 as my all-rounder from 4.0-5.3.
The Pyros like being well powered to the point of performing at their best when being over powered. I wouldn't say they are a great float and ride boards as they are pretty short, perfectly capable but simply put, I don't like the 99 under 5.3. When I use it with 5.0, it's a bit funky even when powered. It seems best 5.3+5.7 and the board would probably handle a 6.2 or bigger. My gut feeling is go bigger with your sail and fins, the board will handle, and like, a hell of a lot more drive than from a 4.7 in light winds lugging 90kgs around. If it's big and offshore, the setup will be a different story.
I mostly run a set of 17cm as a twin as it gets up and goes well when it's 10-15knts, light bump+ jump with a 5.7. Set up is 15cm rears+9cm fronts when there's waves over head. Never been able to get the board to feel right as a thruster but it's me, love twins and quads and can't be ass'd with thrusters. Lots of crew set up as a thruster and go really well. I hear PK runs 20+ &11-12cms as a thruster.
Hope
Thank you very much, I take your point that the board is compact and feels short and that it sails very well overpowered. My initial idea was to have a lot of flotation and speed for bad and light wind, and to be able to use a sail smaller than a 5.3, meaning a 4.7, and why not a 4.2. I see now that it doesn't work out that way. Just the other day, I was sailing strongly with a 4.2 and didn't need to change due to over-floatation (or being overpowered). The board held up.
a question: The board is sold with quad fins. Do you think they are faster than twin fin setup in this case?
thank for your time
