Don't know about the race booms but the wave boom I bought towards the end of last seasons is ultra light and super stiff. Yes it's pricey but you get what you pay for.

Saw these the other day. Really nice looking product.

I bought one of these yesterday but haven't used it yet. It is as well built as the wave Enigma going on looks. Obviously it isn't as light or as stiff as the wave but how can it be when the arms are so much longer and MUCH thicker at the tail section. The head is very similar to the wave in design but not RDM only. It is a very nice looking piece of kit and the scientific formula for working out the approximate cost is: Total=X6x2. The accuracy of this formula is also dependant on the regularity that similar formulae are worked out in local shop.

They really look great. I am now using AL 360 but plan to try Enigmas if they will be available.

Picked my enigma 180-226 up the other day great looking product.
Tried it for the first time yesterday, the Vee type grip made it very comfy to use.
The heads very solid and didn't slip, rear end feels solid with douple pin clips which clip together nice and snug.
very impressed.

How does the weight feel on the water? What size sail did you use?

6.3 hope to get to try it on the 7.8 Tom.
Weight wise I think its about the same as the other Brands out there.

Took the Enigma for its first sail today on a 7.0 Reflex 3. It is so stiff relative to the X6 I was using it feels like it is made from a billet of f#ck yeah. Like Vando said the grip shape is very comfortable. The head feels just like the wave Enigma in its action. Which is very sweet. The tail section locks in very positively and you don't get that slight knocking feeling between the tail and the arms like on some booms. The rig feels more responsive because none of the power is used up by flex. It all goes straight to the board. Yes it's expensive but in this case like the wave Enigma you get what you pay for. VERY nice piece of kit

Just got my stock of booms and the new race booms are awesome so nice to use and allows so much more drive in sail , best boom i have used

Just sailed my new Enigma Boom on my 7.8 and it was great - very happy!! Rock Solid on the mast and very stiff. Boom grip and shape was very comfortable.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or does the boom in the top pic have an issue half way down it"s starboard arm?

That is the shape of the arms. They are both the same. It allows the arms to be further apart in the front section of the boom. The length of the tail section at the minimum setting is where the kick in the arm is. If that makes sense.

Small problem, the back tubes are so fat that the out haul cleats won't fit where I'd like them.
What a boom though!!

You can get the larger dia cam cleats that will fit on the wider section of the boom.

The increased diameter of the arms of both the Severne Enigma and X9 at the backend seems to have added quite a bit of weight,and/or taken feel away. For negligible benefit unless big sails are used? My cheap older model Aeron carbon boom i prefer as feels quite a bit lighter.

If you're missing 5-10 mm you can use a heat gun. Just slowly reheat the plastic wrap around only, not the cleat holding section, and use 2 supplied bolts to slowly close the plastic while still applying heat around. You might use the longer bolts to start with if the original are too short to get a grip. Don't rush. You have nothing to loose if the plastic is too short and useless anyway. BTW I wouldn't set the temperature above 300C to prevent burning the plastic and the boom grip, just in case.

Don't know about the slalom version but the Enigma Wave boom is pretty awesome. Anyone looking for a carbon boom I'd recommend you take that into consideration. Super light, super stiff and the reduced diameter arms make it easy to grip.

I own 160-210 Aeron carbon boom (2008model)and a brand new Enigma 180-226. Petermac ur off ya chops. I like my aeron but it weighs a ton compared to the new bigger Enigma. Boom weight does not make a bees dick of difference when powered up and planing.

In the scheme of things (life) not sure paying twelve hundred bucks or more for a new carbon boom is justified. Going to stick with my 190-230 cm three hundred dollar Aeron carbon boom. You can very easily get sucked into a techno race if you're not careful. I know I did for a while.

My only criticism is the sizing. I would've preferred 190-240, which would have covered most of my quiver (6.6 through to 8.4).

Yep also grabbed one a week or so ago 210 to 260
For big sails.
Got to say probably the best boom I have ever used so far and I have several current x9 to compare to.
Advantages being

Ultra stiff - so when a gust hits the sail, the boom is less prone to stretching (shortening if that makes sense) and deepening the draft of the sail.

Super wide body - so the sail can be bellyed out if needed and not bulge either side of the leeward boom arm effectively creating 2 COE Areas in the sail. Also the wide boom allows for the sailor to stand the rig up straighter as well.

V shape section under the hands is ultra comfortable and less fatiguing on the hands (which should be great in the cooler months

In the scheme of things where sails and boards have a shorter working life (generally) I reckon the cost of one of these booms
Is well worth it as it should last many years.... As long as it stays in one piece;-)

8.4 don't you live in WA .
I like the sizing its why I got one, its covers 5.6-7.8. only one boom to carry around .
