I have Fox 95 - 105 (2024) and 120 liters.
I'm looking for a ~ 85 liters board.
Has anybody seen or tried the new coming DYNO 85?
When will it be on the market? I have read that it has changed a lot from earlier models and more wave-oriented.

Don't have the answers but could ring Revolution board sports and they can probably tell you.

Will you be mainly using it for waves or blasting?

I have Dyno V3 85l and others sizes. I sail in cross on bump and jump choppy conditions and the Dyno V3 is perfect for these conditions.

The V5 is lighter, stronger, faster, earlier to plane, higher to jump and easier to wave ride than the V1,2,3&4 or at least that's what Severne says.

But seriously the Dyno is a good board, the V5 should be as good as the previous models.

If not riding waves, I think you would find all modern freestylewave boards to be very very good.
they are all very similar and really the only point people pick on is how well it goes on waves as that is so hard to achieve with a flatter rocker.
thus you are overthinking it a bit. Given your description you would be very happy on any Dyno
or 3S or newer JP models, or RRD or etcetc



But I agree, just contact Revolution and if they feel it's a bit more wave oriented now, then maybe not for u and u save a lot of money if the older one suits u better

I frequently sail a JP FSW 85 and Tabou 3S 86 and also trialed a Dyno V4 95 earlier. There's a lot of difference between these three boards.

3S excels in lighter conditions and feels super light. It doesn't perform well when very powered up (at least in my setup/conditions). The JP is the other way around, don't like it in marginal conditions but the control when powered up even when overpowered is impressive.

JP is also considerably faster than the 3S, probably because of the flatter bottom. It's actually a really fast board and absolutely love it.

Both boards don't perform well in wave riding but that shouldn't be a surprise. Still fun for jumping and riding swell though.

The Dyno felt like a completely different board to me, admittedly it was 10 litres larger. It felt much slower and more playful so I thought it was more wave oriented although only sailed it on flat, choppy water.

I'm sure the Dyno V5 is a great board, but you might want to trial a few FSW type of boards if you can, especially if you expect it to be as fast as the Fox. Whish they produced a 85 litre version of the Fox, that would be brilliant for high wind blasting.

go and see Paul. one of the great things about having severne local is that they will often let you a board to try, i tried both the 95 and 105 (which for me seemed massive). I didnt go with a dyno as i just didn't get on with it but plenty of others love them hence why its so important to try them i personally prefer the fanatic stubby but all do the FSW the same way but they do feel quite different - JP tend to be quick and clattery, Tabou are nice and smooth (3S vintage is awesome for freeride and 3S + is way more playful and wavy), the quattro fsw is no surprise VERY wavy , etc etc, Goya one used to be a nice blend of both but looks like its got more wavy

Most of the stuff these days will have to be pre-order though, not only for the better price but there is also very little stuff kept in stock compared to eg. 10-15 years ago.

For the 95l, the one I would be most likely to buy, the max sail size is a 5.7m Gator/Convert. They dont actually make a 5.7m Convert.
My 2018 Exocet Cross 95l takes a 6.5m 2 cam freeride with a bit of wind and has enough nose lift to help it over white water/chop.
We are up to v5 of the Dyno and now they decide a bit of extra nose lift makes it easier to get out over white water, according to Simon Bornhoft in the video.

Stop the bollox Severne, unless you want to join Starboard in the fiction section. And get someone who knows to review tech details before releasing them.

ps For the 60cm wide Nano and Pyro they say 6.0m max and they are wave boards, not rapid freeride boards.

The sailfigures are just rough recommendations, and not to be taken literally. Usually they error on the other side though, i.e. give a too large sailrange and the sweetspot is always smaller than that. The Redback sails are not made in any larger sizes than the 4.7, but yes they did mess up the Gator number for the 85 liter board, a 5.3 sail should at least be fine, I guess.

Think what you are seeing is a reflection of smaller sails being paired up with bigger boards

You can use a 5.7 gator on the 85 dyno. No problem.
6.0 was certainly the upper limit and felt a bit off balance (too much sail loading the fin due to the boom length)

Got to ride a V5 95ltr during the week, was gusty shifty 12-18knts in manageable chop off Cottesloe. Set up as wide 4 strapper and with all 3 stock fins in, 6.0 Gator. Did a dozen plus back and forths in dead side shore before handing the keys back. I'm 95kegs and was riding my 99Pyro V2+5.7 blade which was nicely powered, bit under done occasionally.

My Pyro is no slouch but the V5+Gator is lightning by comparison, felt like there was another 10knts on the water. The Gator is a far deeper sail than the Blade and the extra bottom end was chalk and cheese. The V5 combo from a standing start was race board like, bare off, get in the straps ASAP and hang on! The board chewed through any chop and was really composed when running deep over the back of waves at full tilt. Upwind was on rails compared to the Pyro. In my 20+mns on the board it did nothing wrong, even threw a forward, a sign of being comfortable I guess. The overall control at high speed was fantastic.

Afterwards we talked it through. The Pyro combo felt like it had the same power but was a silky smooth stroll. The V5 was set up as a serious cardio/physical workout and you were hauling ass when you went the full monty. Very different, both enjoyable. And very impressed.
Would love to get a V5 set up in wave mode for some small wave bashing. One day maybe...

hey john. i have a 85l v3 Dyno. I only sail waves, its fine from 4.2 to 5.5. If you set it up as a freeride with 4 straps/larger fin there wouldn't be any dramas with larger sails. Its a swiss army knife, I can almost get away with this as my only board. Use it from 10 to 40kts in everything from float and ride to larger dtl. Versatility is its strength rather than outright performance as a wave or freeride

I love the Dyno 95, it's actually not bad in waves! Fantastic for jumping conditions too when it's a bit marginal. Great for blasting through chop too.

If I'm struggling a bit on my Nano 87, then switching to the 95 Dyno always puts a smile on my face.

I've had a go on a Pyro 87 too, I reckon one of those planes almost as early as the Dyno. Picking between a 93 Pyro and a 95 Dyno would be a tough call, both really nice boards.

Go for a Dyno, I think they're awesome! Can't go wrong.

I have a Fox 95 and is the best board ever for blasting around in bump and jump conditions
I can handle it with a Overdrive 6.2 until 30 gusting 35 knots and then i change down to a OD 5.1 but the board is big for 35+
I wrote to Severne to see if they produce a 85 ou 80L Fox but i think my wishes wont be answered as they are afraid that there will not be a market for it

It would be just AWESOME to have a smaller FOX than 95!!

I have the 95l Dyno V3 which I use for wavesailing crossoff and onshore, bump & jump and attempting flat water freestyle. Mostly use with a 5.6m Combat sail and have done 26knts setup as a thruster and inboard straps. Fantastic all-round one board in wind 10-30knts. I'm 85kgs.

This is an old thread now, and I must have missed it.
There's a lot of cross talk here about the sail sizes you can use on a Dyno, and maybe that needs a bit of explaining.
It's really about preference, and your sailing style.

It's worth noting that the Dyno works for most people because it's a convertible design - where you adapt the board set up to suit your type of sailing.
With a long fin in the back and with the straps set outboard, the Dyno is an efficient blasting and freeride board, and in that mode it can take quite a big sail size because speed is your goal, and not manoeuvres. It's pretty quick too, especially on flat water.
In this setting you can also load up the back foot.

With the smaller fins in place as a tri fin set up, the board is loose and more cruisey, plus it turns much better - because there's no long fin to stiffen up the turn or to lift the rail. This set up means you can use the inboard strap positions which, in turn, get your body weight more over the board. You can then change your stance to sail off the front foot more, and with the mast set more upright. The tri fin setting - as supplied with each Dyno board size - is still a lot of fin area, and that helps those who are learning, and those who suffer from spinout.

To use the Dyno in waves you must use the inboard straps but, better still, buy yourself a much shorter centre fin, as that loosens up the board significantly, and, in the 84 and 95litres sizes, the Dyno has plenty of rocker curve to turn on a wave face. The 85 and 95 sizes I had both worked well with an 18cms centre fin to match the Severne 12.5cms thrusters.

For 'proper' wave sailing however, you don't want to overload the board size with a big sail. So, for example, you 'can' fit up to a 6m rig on an 85ltre Dyno when in 'long fin mode' , but when set up with less fin area the 85 litre probably has an upper sail size limit of 5.2m. I'd recommend you get the 95 litre version if light winds mean you want to use a 5.5m or a 5.7m rig.
Both smaller sizes of Dyno can be true wave weapons especially onshore conditions, because the hull design keeps good speed in the turns - without relying too much on a clean wave face.

The water conditions and local currents also affect the upper and lower sail size limits of any windsurf board.

But nowhere near as good for blasting/freeride as a board designed for that.

I think the brands advertising always overstates the moving of straps and single fin usage. If they were that bothered about people moving the straps, they would offer a better way of fixing the straps to the board.

I did a poll on a FB page: For freewave or FSW boards with both inboard and outboard footstrap positions, I was wondering how many people use both. Seems a bit of a faff to move them a lot.

I think a lot of people, like myself, who use small FSW for waves/strong wind only just use the inboard straps, and have a larger board for high wind blasting. I've always had a 85lish FSW (inboard straps only) and 90-95l small B&J/blasting board (outward straps only). Ignoring strap position and fin design, there is quite a large difference in actual board design between wave and blasting. Rail design, planing flat length, tail rocker, deck shape under the feet.

Duotone's board looks to have the sharpest least tucked rails, for freeride, but no real outboard strap positions unless you go single screw for slightly more outward.
Tabou 3S has the rear strap position behind the power box screw hole. Flat rocker profile at the rear, like the JP FSW.
Severne Dyno looks to have the waviest rocker line at the rear.
Quattro & Goya have the offset fin in the box which Fanatic did then dropped.
Starboard have that but the freeride fin at the back of the box. So if you have a decent PB fin you want to use, then it wont be in the optimum place.
