Not windsurfing gear as such, but a really great bit of gear I bought a few months ago. I have two sets now.

Basically these things are bit like normal tie-downs, except the straps have steel rope sewn in to the edges, and the clamp is cast alloy and locks tight with a small key.

so basically you can lock your boards to the top of your car and not spend the whole morning with your eyes glued to your stuff in case some idiot nicks it.

well made, australian designed by a couple of brissy guys, you can buy them at surf shops or online at www.stickprotection.com .

between $70 and $90 depending on length, these things are damn cheap insurance.

well worth a look for anyone that hasn't joined the van brigade!

Completely agree, i bought some 2 weeks ago and can now relax a little when my kit is on the roof!

Sounds like an excellent idea. At least it might help against the oportunists.

They say that you can't cut it with a knife and the webbing is designed to block a pair of bolt cutters. It's meant to be quicker to cut through the roofracks - i can't imagine many people would have a hacksaw or the time to do this (i hope).

Or carry a 12mm ratchet with you.

alas it's true, nebbian, if someone wants something real bad, they'll find a way to take it. but I'd suggest that most theives are gutless and wouldn't risk the 10 mins it might take to get the roofracks off with the gear attached, especially if your car is parked somewhere where people come and go and there's a chance of getting caught.

something like this deters your typical snatch-and-run thief enough to be effective I think.

now, if I could only invent something to lock my streamliner (and the sails in it) to the roof, I could REALLY relax....

yeah, but pricey, and can't find one thin enough to sit next to the boards on the roof.

i feel an invention coming on....

These guys do some intersting boxes, you can fit the boards on top. Seem to do quite well in the uk - they may give you some ideas

I want one, I want one!!! I've been looking at Thule boxes, so I can fit my gear AND family in the car on holidays, but still not sure how the boards would sit. These look great !!! Not sure about the price though - when converted to Aussie $$$ the 850 pounds becomes an awful lot.

They used to have a few different ranges and I've even seen ones custom sprayed to match the board on top (on great one matched an old bic board which went from orange to pink to white)!!

We (when i used to go windsurfing my my parents and brother) used to have a basic trailer which we converted with a lockable box. Parking wasn't great but the car never got any sand or salt water on or in it.

yes indeed, very nice looking, but the price... GULP. you could buy a used van for that! then add freight, duty....

im doing a road trip south over chrissy, to Bermagui, packed with windsurfing kit plus a few surfboards, these straps sound great, Im grabbing a pair for sure.
