Hey everyone,

Looking at purchasing a second hand 2009 Maui Sails RDM 430 50% for a 2011 6.1 Neilpryde Firefly.

I am just curious on thoughts and opinions on how different this mast would be to say an NP x6 430 50%? NP (like all other sail manufacturers state that their sails should be rigged on their mast but after looking at the specs online I cant tell much difference....

On the NP website the NP mast characteristics are -
X6 WAVE 430 RDM Length - 430 IMCS - 21 Weight - 2.30 Carbon - 50%

On the maui sails website the mast characteristics are exactly the same -
SRS WAVE 430 RDM Length - 430 IMCS - 21 Weight - 2.30 Carbon - 50%

Any comments from others if these would perform any differently on the 2011 6.1 Neilpryde Firefly? I am aware that the sails arnt here yet but thought some RDM experts might be able to speculate about differences if any..

I don't think it will work all that well.

you can see that the Maui Sails RDM masts have a bend curve of between 9 and 10 (which is a stiff top), while Neil Pryde is more like 16 (which is a flex top).

For reference, the so-called 'constant curve' masts have a bend curve of around 12, which is a nice middle of the road figure. Most brands use this figure of around 12, however Pryde and Maui Sails are at opposite ends of the bend curve spectrum.

The effect you'd see is that it would be difficult to get the top to fall away the way it should, and when you did put on enough downhaul then the bottom of the sail would look really wrong.
