Hi all I'm Scott. I'm getting back into sailing after a 4 year hiatus. As a result I've picked up a very tidy 2013 Starbaord Quad 82Lt. It's in great knick and I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible. So I've been scouring the interweb and forums for a board bag that I can run without removing the fins each time. I don't want a travel bag just a solid padded bag to store the board in. I came across an old thread here on seabreeze (see below) and tried to post a reply rather than start a new one but it won't let me as the thread is too old. In essence, sorry for the double up.

I have seen the Flying Object Multi-fin bag and I think that it may not work, firstly the bag size is 220cm x 60cm but the board is 229cm x 58.5cm. Secondly the front fins are offset laterally to the rear fins so won't fit through the same fin slots. I've sent Marco from Flying objects an email and am waiting to hear back but I'm curious if anyone out there has experience with the quad and have found a bag to fit?

As I replied in my PM your board will fit into our 235 x 60 Twin Fin or Multifin board bag / travel covers.

I have owned pretty much every Starboard Quad / Twin and our bags have been designed around them. The rear fins slide through the twin fin slots and the front fins fit into the excess material internally, this way we cover a broad range of brands.

Below is a link to the 2016 Twin Fin bags, for the 2017 range this bag is now called a Multifin as I have included a middle fin slot to suit Thruster boards.
Also the colour for the Travel cover in 2017 is Red

The bag in your link is a slightly different design / outline for stubby nosed boards and only suits boards up to 220cm long but it shows the new fin slot arrangement for the 2017 bags.

Hey Marco,

Those aren't stubby dimensions, I've got a new stone that's 206L and in need of a bag.
It's not to protect the board it's the car, the board has rubbed throught the trim and paint on the landcruiser.

I'd prefer something close to the length, didn't want 150 of extra fold ideally?".

Ocean and earth do some stubborn bags but not certain on internal space for strapps and fin placement.

Any recommendations?

Please keep that board in a bag Dunk. I'd like to shotgun first rights when you upgrade. Assume you mean 106l. His stubby boards are so fun.

The board is 206 in length, yeah it's a fun board!
It'll be ridden to death, though agree it should be bagged.

Hey Marco thanks heaps for the super fast reply, the PM (not the twat in Canberra) and the info. I'll check them out. I assume your site has a link to find local dealers, I'm in Sydney? Also out of curiosity what's the difference between the Travel and the Boardbag? I assume the travel is slightly heavier and better padded? Is there much of a difference in RRP?

Issue with the stone stealth is the back fins are too wide for a regular twin/quad bag, though after riding the board I think the fin location near the rail is on the money

How many litres? I've got an 80ish and it's the best thing I've ever ridden. Just want some bigger ones.

I guess there are Stubby's and there are Stubbies

I aim to cover as broad as possible range of board and brands, while trying to keep our bag range as small as possible.

Unfortunately something like the Stone boards are a little too custom to warrant more specific outlines to suit. The fin placement / sizes being so far out on the rail it would require some pretty specific shaping to fit and have all fins slot through.

Simply not something that would be viable for a mass production bag and I'm not sure who would have something that would work.

Travel Covers (RRP $210.00 - 235 x 60 Multifin) have thicker padding and use the more durable 600D both top and bottom, we also use the #10 YKK plastic slider with a larger tooth pattern for extra durability and anti corrosion.

Board Bags (RRP $165.00 - 235 x 60 Multifin) use the reflective white tarpee for the bottom, are thinner and therefore a little cheaper

easist fix is...
1. get a bag that fit the shape of the board bests.
2. with the fins mark carefully with black marker the slots you want.
3. Mark only one side and measure and mark exactly same on other side.
4. cut the slots - take to local canvas shop.

takes 30 minutes to put some material on them and looks like it is factory done.
should not cost much either.

I made myself a bag the other day with a boxed tail section for my Quatro quad. Problem solved. It's actually a small business of mine but unfortunately I'm located in Cape Town so that doesn't help you. Perhaps you can find a local manufacturer to do the same? Hope so! It certainly solves problems with shops holding stock of too many fin variations:







With fins sticking out they invariably get knocked on something. This solves all your problems. And it won't matter if you buy a thruster later on, or a twinser, depending on the fin/board size. All my bags have 10mm foam, and I make any custom sized bag. I don't see the point in differentiating between travel or "normal" bags. Anyway, I'm sure the forum doesn't want me punting my faraway business here :) Take care and wishing you much wind for 2017. Super windy here now, again
