Did anyone get one or were they the ****e that they always looked like they were going to be....?

i have just got mine in so ill be writing about them as well, first to mention is how stiff they are alot stiffer then mountain bike forks

WOW what a difference

first response was i couldn't believe how well they worked on the water, i rigged up a North 8.2 X-type super easy to rig with the rachet system. Grovelled out for a bit not really noticing much, then a puff of wind on the plane off i went there's no real massive change theres no magical speed increase however theres just NO harshness from the chop. So to figure out if it was working i tried one of my mates boards and then another rig then jumped back on the Shock XTR and massive difference, and yes off the wind there is a lot more control and becomes really easy to sail big gear on small chop quickly, alot less rig distortion and a lot more fun.
I also teamed the shock XTR with i-Front platnium boom which has the flexy boom clamp and super smooth sailing super comfy.

however havent finished testing it so with more wind on the forecast will test the shock XTR in stronger winds on a smaller board (86l Fanatic Falcon)

I have been using one for the past two months. The "Concept" works. You have a more positive feel between board and rig. Hard to explain,you can feel the Shox absorbing the bounce from the board, the rig seems steadier and more locked.
I have only used it on slalom boards but I feel a difference when I rig a standard base, lining up with my local sailing mates over the winter, they have mentioned I am more in control and a bit faster than last year.
Same boards, same sails, same fins, just changed to a Shox.
Just my opinion on the thing!!

well they should work north have been testing and refining them for 5 years

I'd imagine that you would lose power trying to pump on to the plane in marginal winds?

next season ? .. as in 2011/12?

is it not available currently for this season 2010/11?

plenty of the north gear does not seem to be imported by the distributor so just grab one from overseas. probably work out about the half the price also!

I struggled to buy my North Race Base years ago, so I just grabbed those from overseas.

It's a bit odd though that everyone is very quiet about them & in this day of gps's no one has objectively gone "im quicker on the shox", plenty of "it feels nicer in the chop" though.

maybe GP is asking whether it's going to be one of those "one season wonders" that starboard and naish often come up with and will it still be on the market in 12 months time?

Get your hands on a Shox and use it for a weekend then re-post your thoughts. The "Shox" has its place in the big scheme of things, it is a matter of looking outside the square and trying before knocking!
For the average sailor it would be a great advantage, rig control, stable stance, = more speed. More speed, more fun!!!!

i love mine there awesome and im getting better nm's as well and more of them because its more of a comfortable ride, however they are expensive but whats cheap anyway these days... i wouldnt say it will change your sailing experience forever because for speed sailing its not going to make you quicker on the flat stuff anyway its when you get in the rougher stuff that it makes a difference so for slalom and B&J and for those crazy old blokes that smoke everyone

but i've only used it with my 7.0 and 7.6 cambered sails in light and fully powered conditions and ive noticed that they make light wind sailing easier because the rig doesn't deform as much when going over the chop but, love em or hate em, or dont worry bout
