Nalu's are powerful, and very tunable.
Tightleech and loose outhaul makes for pure power and low end.
Loose to 3rd and tight out makes somewhat rangy but still powerful like Alphas and Dukes.

I'm sure they're good sails but please try for yourself before listening to LeeD's tips.
His misinformation is legendary.

My main reason for buying the Nalu is for foiling and your description sound perfect for early grunt

This is a olde sail ? As in 2002 ish if the case it would be a condition and price VS how it did/ does on the water.
the newer NAISH are desirable much more, Force, Chopper. And it would want a stiff top mast if that era to perform as designed.

I had a Nalu 5.0 & 5.8m, 2001-2005. More grunty than their down the line wave sail, it was good for blasting around on my F2 Axxis 261.
I'm 100% certain I didnt use a Naish mast, and from these old photos it looks flat at the top but not a great deal of floppy leech. My other small sails at the time were 4.0 & 4.5 Ezzy Wave and when I got new sails I bought all Ezzy Waves. Nothing bad to say about the Nalu sails, I just preferred the build quality and feel of the Ezzy sails.
When did they drop the Nalu for the Force (I think it was called)? I wouldn't buy a sail that old now unless they were very very cheap and in good condition.

To add, a good topic, it had me looking back through my photos and reminiscing of my NZ trip.

The name on the mast , is not so important, it's the mast bend curve that is.
as being pointed out, this is a olde sail, 15 ?

has 99 battens depending on size.
what color is it, does it compliment your gear ?

The sail is mint for the year looks like had very little use and it's all most give away. It's 4.5 and think be perfect for my foiling if has low down grunt. I intend to rig with my servne 4.5 skinny mast.

My 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 set was acquired in 2011.
Around my 27th year of windsurfing.
4.0 and 5 was brand new.
Used with both STDs and rdm masts, depending on wave or speed needs.
Also got a 5.5 Nalu around 2006.
Still use the 4.0 for foiling, similar to my 4.2 Ezzy Wave. Lots of foot area like a freeride sail equals low center of effort.

Funneeeeey
in 2000 I had a tattoo on my leg, I still have the NAISH brochure that it came from , even odder its the NALU, is what it is.
these are the pertinent bits as written. IMO , it would now be a power wave classification. I think I had one of these 2000sails, but my memory and photos are cobwebbed.

They recommend a NAISH mast, duh,

30-60% carbon. Skinny's would have just been comin out then. Your mast a Severne I think should be ok. It may work better on a SDM. I think a 400 would be my pick for the 4.5 , luff is 412, boom 158,but 430 is an optional mast from NAISH and a option for sure.
i have purchased older sails , mine for Windsup , I can tell the difference to a newer design. Not a world class sailor, but I have a good feel, and again it's what works. I see no reason to not go for it.

i would take a photo of my leg tattoo, but that would encourage a bizziom jokes.

Thanks for the info Forceten I know it's a old sail but reading the info you posted it looks perfect foil me foiling. I could rig with my sdm North viper 400 mast (100 %carbon) which is super light and should make rig light in hand for foiling.
Don't be bashful post the tattoo and just take the stick

Forceten....
RDM was spec'd for 1992 Windwing wave sails. Powered in Utah made them.
Did not work well for Gaastra or Neil Pryde.
Fine for WW, Wadell, Hot, Simmer, Ezzy, and most wave sails.
My first set was 1991, when I was still sponsored by Trevor.

Forceten, I had sail sponsors until '04, so did not get Naish Sails until they were already 10 years out of date.
Never wanted the softer feel of RDM, so didn't try skinnies on Nalu until foiling last year.
I used RDM only for wave sailing and maybe a handful of days in flat water. Waves, RDM. Flat water, SDM.

Too general. I only have RDM now. In the words of David Ezzy , RDM or SDM is not anywhere near as critical as the mast curve compatibility is. My 100% carbon Powerex was always a option for 7.5m, even though I had RDMs, it did feel better in lighter wind.
i had a Naish Boxer, the store sold me a flex top mast, it didn't work too well,I was uninformed, sucked into a reduced price.
i had a more recent Chopper, that worked well, it's gone now, unnecessary.
i have several sponsors , Social Security, bag balm, ibuprofen, band aides, Blue Cross Blue Shield.
both NAISH sails and boards I have liked. Most of my sails are UK customs, a few Ezzy and a few Hot Sails Maui.
stay out of trouble, on here.
cheers
