I going for 5.5 & 6.3

I tried my Mauisails TR9 5.5m other day. Wind was only 15-22 so I rigged it with moderate downhaul and negative outhaul.

It has a very straight luff curve which should help with mast durability. Can pull the downhaul almost like a wave sail.

Rigged it on a North full carbon mast that is around 200g lighter than my Severne Blueline and I could feel the lighter feel for sure.

Rotation was about as close to perfect as you will get with a race sail.

Still don't believe these modern race sails are any faster than sails around the 2010 vintage.

The cam rotation has improved lots though.

Same day I borrowed a 7.9m race sail,was going to give it a shot till I tried to lift the monstrosity out of the water.

Then I remembered why I hate big sails.

the sail profile looks great.......almost photoshop perfect :). But it looks like it did take 3 guys to rig it.

Production is a bit behind unfortunately. We are expecting the sails in Oz late January.

Just read that heap of staff shown the door at MS including Artur and Barry. http://www.mauisails.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5153 Any truth to the rumours. Geez hope it's not and apologies if just idle gossip with no basis.

"Maui sails has under gone some changes yes, but we are still in business, delivering sails, producing sails, booms and masts. It's business as usual. We are covering warranties, servicing our customers and here to answer questions about the products. We will continue to do development and deliver world class products. Sometimes in business you have to make changes. 35 years in the industry and I've seen all brands making big changes at times. There are things we need to improve on such on better on time delivery of products."

Good to hear all appears business as usual over at MS although I suspect the powers that be may not have been all too pleased with the slower than expected production and delivery. From personal experience creatively orientated people (the designers etc) don't necessarily make great business people and at the end of the day if the business isn't making money then it's usually the creative ones who unfortunately go first.

Out of interest have the TR-XI's hit Australia yet?

Who owns the brand?

Cant add much more than what has just been said. Barry has pulled back from Mauisails for a couple of years now. Art will still be involved, more likely on a consultant basis. Phil McGain is the sole owner of the brand. A shame to let go of Taty, he's already shown great things with his new kit, winning the long distance in Guadeloupe.

The TRXI will be in Oz next week.

Freshly arrived today, the 7.7 and 7.0. Visually the refinements from the TRX seem to be:
- additional profile down low using a tube batten
- breathing leech to keep the soft feeling, the leech seems to open more from batten 5 with still a smooth twist from bottom to top

Next step, test on the water and rigging of the smaller sizes...

What are the feelings after water testing?
Low&high end? In comparison to trx?
Are you using the new K(evlar) masts?

A couple of sessions on the 7.7 in light and moderate breeze. As from previous years, small increment mods that make the whole experience easier. This year the main objective was to increase bottom end especially on the larger (7.0 and up) sizes. They have indeed delivered by replacing the bottom rod batten by a tube as all other battens, creating a deeper profile more locked in around the boom area.



The other aspect that I noticed was a more reactive, balanced leech up top with still enough twist to depower when needed. This helps keep board trim correct and concentrate on chop and where to go.

I ride in Maui Sails for 3 years. We just received the new TRXI in France. I also want to share with you the video of our first test with my two friends Fabien (FRA70) and Xavier (FRA767).

[b]TR11 MAUI SAIL TEST[/b]
I have updated my Maui sails from TR9 to TR11 in the 6.6m and the 7.7m range with new masts.
I wanted to tell people my thoughts.
The mast well they are SOOO much better in durability. The Kevlar reinforcement and the thickness of the mast you can see and feel. It is a bit heavier but happy to have a mast not break over a couple of 100 grams.
Very happy with the mast.
The sail first thing you notice is the bottom of the sail has a touch more shape from previous years due to the new batten used in the lower part of the sail. This gives the sail a bit better low end.
The leach is a bit tighter making it look and feel better on the water.
The sail rigged as it should and the measurements are accurate. Like always I need to play with the sail to get the exact down haul I like but I am within 5mm.
The sails look and feel great.
I have already had good results with only two sails on the 6.6 and one very light sail on the 7.7. I achieved 36.5 knots in chop on Lake Macquarie in 25 knots very happy with that speed in open water. I did almost a 25hr and top speed of 39.5 in 20 to 25knots If only a bit more wind and if I hadn’t have fallen off 3 times the hr could have been much better. Yes I fell off it does happen luckily not very often.
Any way just love them if you are looking for new sails or even second hand go Maui the gear that works.
