Is it just me or is there something extremely funny about that photo? Maybe it's the hat.

It's just begging for a caption contest isn't it?

I was thinking the same thing, photo almost looks superimposed. And Phil McGain is looking pretty relaxed there, particularly with that hat perfectly in place no matter what the conditions!

^^^Gee he looks a bit unfit that old fella.

PS - I liked the first photo - one very cool customer. In fact so cool he was able to apply the TR6 sticker between the first photo and his gybe.

He looks like he is very annoyed about something.

Maybe his grand dad wants the hat back.

I watched Phil sail when I was in Maui at Sprecks. I was having fun and being challenged on a 4.7m and 78L board in the reef breaks. He was out there on a 6.2m and slalom board and I could see that he was picking the knarliest bits of water to blast through. Still looked relaxed and very fast.

Yes ,yes, yes,,,,, he's cool and fit and a legend. He is to windsurfing what Yoda was to Jedi Knights.

I guess his years of testing, research and development of Maui Sails race program is part of the reason why the TR6 is one of the most highly anticipated race sails for 2010.

Looks like a well sorted bit of gear. (the sail,,,, not just the old fella)

Agree with Des. Watching him at any of Maui's north shore spots is awesome.
He is definitely one of the fastest in downwind reaches through severe chop, just makes it look so easy. Fit as a fiddle too, does marathons now.
What do you reckon Ado??

Dont knock the hats, a major fashion statement

Great photo Rex,
Must be a special hat for the front not to have flipped up.
Hard for a hat to keep it's shape like that over 40 knots,,,,,,,, (and with one hand)

How's the knee mate?
All recovered?

Interesting that the thread discusses the hat more than the sail. Maybe Maui Sails should supply a hat with their sails.

Nothing wrong with wearing a hat when windsurfing. I have two hats for windsurfing. One is a straw hat thats good for lowish winds and hot days. The second is some sort of gortex, synthetic hat thats better for higher winds. If its really windy or cold I've got the Gath.

Hey Jase, knee is great mate, 95% now I reckon and absolutely no issues sailing at all. I just know that my duck waddling days are over.
The hat is just an O'Neill I picked up from Sam, it does have a stiff front section designed to stay solid at speed.....BUT only up to about 28 odd knots and then she slides backward on the scone and becomes useless. It was rigourously tested at Sandy point this year
You back in Oz yet or still swanning around the Greek isles?

Shape of TR-6 seems just nice. Also seems boom lengths will be shorter by 4 to 6 cms. Can't tell about the new looks... what's your idea?

Don't like much the new looks in colour, but love it in black/white. Shape seems even nicer than TR-5...
If drawings are out, hopefully full specs will be ready soon.

Good to see a speed / slalom sail without a six foot clew cut out, although I would have thought a small one reduces boom length just that small fraction.

No need for cut out. Boom length is reduced "just that small fraction" by changing the clew outline: no more a corner like before, but a rounded one now.
