Possibly you are correct.....the next board I design will have a carbon zimmer frame......

I am 60 in November but like all of us "senior" Windsurfers before each session my brain thinks I am still 30, during the windsurfing session it starts to get a dose of reality and after the Windsurfing session the legs tell the brain they are 85.

Just the non skid and all done.......... excited??? yep!

Thanks..... Will know more when I have tested both ends of the wind range. Gut feeling is 8.5 might be too big except for flat water...I would comfortably say 8.0. Probably 6.0 the smallest, yes, of coarse you could use smaller if you felt that way inclined. I think the sweet spot will be 7.0-7.5.

sounds about right .maybe the perfect number would be 6,5 -7,5 .
just this year i've been doing a bit of speed stuff.brought a 115 patrick .they said best for 7,0-8,0
i thought bull, I'LL squeeze that up or down ,,,but ,they where right the perfect number is 7,0 -8,0.
but doesn't it go ..,have used a 8,5 no cam ..it ok ..but need more fins .only have a 40 ..most of mine are power box but love the sturdy tuttle.that it has.
I'LL be looking for a 100 litre job soon .
your 107 litres is great size ..what size fin you gonna use ? 38 -42 .your fin shape looks great ..nice amount of sweep.

The Patrik 115 is 40mm wider in the tail than this board so will carry a bigger fin and sail. I have designed 2 different 36 cm fins to test in this and I am thinking 34 to 38 is probably the right fin range but will find out more once I get it on the water.
I have already completed the CAD on a 59 wide 92 litre version and could do a mid size maybe 63ish wide 99/100 litre, so if you are interested? It is designed as a rough water slalom board so I did not feel the need for a board bigger than this 66.5 107 litre board.
If James sends it Monday I should have it for the weekend...that probably means no wind for a month!!! I will learn a lot more once I have put it through it,s paces.

the double concave on the patrick sure does make a soft ride through chop.as explained earlier in your thread,it surprised me up north west, how nice it was.
but at 7,0 being it lowest sail and the width,,, a smaller speed machine would be great, the fun begins when you put up a 6,0 .
and having a board that just gets faster and faster with unlimited top end ...

Sexy! You wont go missing at sea with that colour. You might scare the turtles and dugongs out of the way too, which is only fair if it's radioactive.

As it's a one off I'm surprised to see what looks like industrial printed decals. Did you make those yourself? Computer printed?

What's the go with the laminated pads? Are they different density EVA?

The decals are computer printed yes...James at Carbonart has a source and they were done off an Ai file I sent him. Pads are duel density.

It,s landed. I only got a chance to grab it out of the box and make sure there was no transit damage before I had to duck back to work, but my first impression is WOW!!!

Thanks...Probably won,t get a chance to take detail photos until the weekend. Just ran a ruler over it...very accurate as i would expect from Carbonart. It is come in at 6.55kgs which is great considering the thicker pads and the predominately S glass bottom . I am super impressed....the board looks way better in the flesh, very modern with the defined scalloped out deck and parallel rails. Can't wait to take it for a fang!!!!!

Straps on and ready to rock and roll....Tomorrow??

Here's a set of photos to explain the design a bit more and demonstrate what great work Carbonart have done.













Parallel rails through to behind the front foot straps then tapering to a moderate tail width. Scooped out deck to lighten the front of the board and get the volume back under the straps where it is most effective. Duel density pads. Deck is full 12 K Carbon.








V with double parallel concave right through. V is a constant 1 degree a side and the side flats are 1.2 degree. Concaves are 3.5 deep under the mast track and shallow out as they run to the tail.





Good V at the tail and just a hint of concave. After having done lots of boards now I believe this is a great formula for softening the ride in rough water, especially important to have the V and concave under the straps not just forward in the board like most slalom boards do.







The rocker is almost flat to 700, just a hint of tail lift. There is a little more rocker through the centre of the concave which occurs naturally as you shallow the concave out.

Now it is testing time and if I am 100% satisfied that it is meeting the design brief then I will make it available to anybody who is interested...built to order by Carbonart. My Weapon and Fusion boards are ready to go now. Come on wind !!!!!!

Well it got wet....unfortunately the wind didn't co-operate for a good test session but I got some good first impressions.

Had been a windy Northerly all day but by the time I got away from work it was starting to back off a bit. Still looked reasonably solid as i rigged but of coarse as I put my wettie on it started getting dodgy. Stuff it...going anyway!!! 6.3 Race was the biggest sail I had (was meant to be really windy) and the only fin I have which was appropriate is a pretty trashed KA Slalom 37.

First Impressions

Float....With my winter wettie harness and booties I would have to sailing at 95 Kgs maybe more. It floated me well and was pretty stable. The volume is back around the front straps which helps.

Spent the first 20 minutes dredging and was about to call it when it looked like it was filling a bit from the city end. A couple of puffs came through and it popped. Seemed to get up pretty easy but you do have to get the weight back. Bugger...cant get my feet in the straps, probably should have adjusted those. In I came.
Sorted and just enough wind to plane...that's better.

Ride.......It instantly felt very nice and accelerated up to speed effortlessly. The tide was running against the wind so there was a very steep close frequency chop and it charged through easily. The ride is active and lively but there was no thumping or harshness.

Speed......Well I was never really powered up as the wind was very puffy and unstable, shifting around alot. Big holes in it as well. I freed off a couple of times and it accelerated really fast. I was happy to see a 30 on the dial considering i was half powered. I think there is a lot of speed in this board. I have posted in GPSTC.

The gybe....well i only did a couple as the wind seemed to fail every time I wanted to turn around but it is easy to gybe and I think in powered conditions it will be great.

So unfortunately not a great day to draw any huge conclusions but I am really encouraged and I give the first run a thumbs up!!
