I'm thinking about getting a used fiberspar 370 raduis rdm 95%carbon(Can get it cheap). From the peterman chart they say the 400 is 8.8 ...so hard top constant curve?, which is somewhat close to the naish firestick at 9.7.
If I get the mast and it doesn't work out well I could sell it for what I paid for it.
Have used Naish Boxer, Sessions and Stealth's from 2003 until 2012. Had the same funding issue as you had back in the days so had a mixed bunch of masts. Plus I tried some different brands before I got a good deal on a complete set of Naish Firestick 100 and Race 100 masts in 2009.
- Fiberspar Radius RDM, when rigged the sails looked the same as with the Firestick 100. Sailing wise was a different story. The sails felt more direct and were a lot harder to control in the gusts with the Radius.
- Gun Select RDM, sails had a bit more loose leach compared to the Firesticks. Felt softer when sailing and easier to control in the highend. Lacked a bit of drive in the lowend. Would be my pick if you're a lighter (sub 80 kg) surfer. With my 100 kg I really liked these in the monofilm Stealth's but not so much in the X-166 Stealth's from 2009 onwards.
- Gaastra Ignition and Gold RDM. Not quite sure about the sizes I used. The Gold RDM came very close to the Firesticks. The Ignitions had the same feel as the Radius.
- Simmer RDM10 (supposed to be flextop) and SC10 (SDM), haven't tried these myself but a friend which also sailed Naish back in the day did. The RDM10 didn't work in the Naishes but the SC10 felt the same as the Race100.
- NP X7 and X-combat RDM, sails totally lacked any drive. Flextop is def. not the way to go with 'older' Naish sails.
In my opinion Gorgesailor is spot on. If the Firestick is out of budget go for a middle CC mast. Will give the Naishes a softer feel and a bit less punch. But if you're not that heavy you will hardly notice the difference.
