Im looking at rdm carbon mast extension's, I currently use a 36cm serverne with a 100% powerex 430 mast however I still need a couple more inches of downhaul for my 6.5 gator. Been looking at the streamlined 46 cm, it's quite a nice bit of kit for the money but Im not sure if its compatible with the Severne pully system. Just wondering if anyone uses them?

A mast tip extension is another option. You can make one of a broken mast.

I've got one of these that I've only used a handful of times. What specifically is different with Severne's pulley system.

FWIW, I prefer to use the Pryde MXT bases and extensions, just because the Pryde pulley system locks the rope in place, whereas the Streamlined one doesn't.

I've got a 30cm? Streamlined RDM aluminium extension. First one I got the bolt sheared off that holds the pulley base to extension whilst downhauling sail but was quickly replaced on warranty and haven't had any issues to date. I have no problems with rope slipping (locking) into cleat and easily rig 90deg opposite sail pulley i.e. the pulleys are at right angles to each other. The only negative is I have to use a thong on my foot to downhaul as the base diameter is quite small and puts too much pressure on my girly soles to bare as opposed to an SDM base.

I use a Streamlined 46cm ali extension (cup system & RDM) with Severne sails (S1, Blade and Gators) on Powerex masts. Got the 46cm for a 6.5 Gator on a 430, but I use it for everything down to 3.7. The pulleys are theoretically 90 degrees out but it works absolutely fine for me.

Few weeks ago I got a Severne carbon pin type extension because I wanted a second extension.

After half a dozen uses I went back to the Streamlined. The Severne is very, very nice, but somehow the Streamlined just seemed to fit like an old pair of slippers. I would say the Severne is better engineered, although the Streamlined is so beautifully simple, and simplicity is usually best.

So then I got a 36cm Streamlined ali as a second base and filed the Severne carbon away in the back of the shed as a spare spare.

But, like sausage says, I have always needed shoes (or a towel or something) to downhaul the Streamlined and could do the Severne in bare feet. I figured it was the cup style having a hollow tube that was like a giant hole punch pushing into my foot and the pin style having a flat plate with a small hole that gave much more surface area to push against, rather than the brand of extension, but I don't know for sure.

Aeron extensions appear to work well with Severne pulleys. I've got an Aeron 46cm HD rdm extension which cost me around $90 new whilst the streamlined 46cm extensions are up around the $145 mark. I use a 30cm Streamlined extension with KA sails but I've never been able to get the rope to thread properly when using the Streamlined with Severne Blades so end up using the Aeron instead.
