The final part of the "lovemuscle" trilogy is complete and has been christened. I designed this 54 cm wide, 85 litre board primarily as a light wind speed board for use at Sandy point and medium choppy water, and for doing Alpha's and Nautical miles.
It has flat V right through and a parrallel outine which tucks into a moderate pintail at 400 off.
Stuart Truscott of Dwellerdesigns kindly built the board for me and has done a fabulous job. I met Stuart last year when he was completeing his home built CNC machine. I expressed interest in having him build me a board and this is the result. I am very happy.
Built from 200 gram 3K Carbon it is very light, 5.3 kg,s without straps, and super stiff.



It got it,s first shakedown at Sandy point yesterday in a 15-25 knot shifty breeze. After my first run I had to give the trailing edge of the fin a sand as it was squeeling like a pig but after that I settled down and started to feel very comfy on the board. It planed very easy and was very smooth with the V eating the small chop.
I was doing 37,s easy and with a bit more effort I milked a 39.3 out of it. This with a 28 cm Slalom fin, a speed fin would definitely be faster (and a bigger sail )
So a very succesfull debut, I am smiling.




Please, no comments as to why I am holding the ironing board rather than using it

It is now a grand total of 4 boards I have designed and had built by Australian Custom builders. My magic SSD from Mark Stone, the 2 fabulous boards Peter Ross from OES built me and now this light wind speed machine from Stuart at Dwellerdesigns.com.au.

jeez mate, you should stop designing cars for a job and start designing windsurfers for a job. they all look awesome and fly!

That will be Danny's year 11 metalwork project. Not sure how it ended up on the roof but it,s sort of cool.
Thanks for the encouragement re the boards, they are all performing great and Stuart has done a really nice job on this. This is the last of the set so I don't see myself getting another built for a while( completely out of fun tickets!!!!) I am more than happy to design something up for anybody else who wants a custom built though. It,s been great fun and good to support the local board builders, like you have been Justin with Peter.
It is super rewarding to be riding and enjoying something you have designed yourself, alot more interesting than buying a board"off the shelf".Being a proffesional Industrial Designer this is what you live for, creating stuff!!!

Ado has been running a KA Symetrical 23cm speed fin in his CA55 and reckons it is perfect for Sandy point. I think I will try one in this and see if I can push through into the low 40,s with a 6.4. It should do it.

Well I am pretty right now for a complete quiver so unless I destroy one it will be a hard sell to justify another board to the boss.
This one was a bit simpler than the other speed board and Slalom board. No wingers or cutouts. I gave a higher priority to gybing than on the others which were all about maximum efficiency for top end speed.

That is Stuarts Dwellerdesign logo, I guess there is a "D" in there somewhere.
I quite like the logo but would have been happier if he had stuck it on centreline but if this is my only gripe I think he has done really well.

Very impressive board. Doesnt need the sun to look beautiful.

Now Im sure what to build next. Will try to trace the outline from your pic.

Fredstyles, Do you have a CAD system that will read "nurbs" surface (igs file)

Could have been worse - Any reason given for the mast track being in the centre ?(mast track is off-centre in CAD image above)

PS Martin - lovely looking board.

Now there's an idea. Mast tracks off centre for one way tracks like SP.

Dan Engdahl had a board with the fin off centre.

Yoyo, Sorry, I have no idea how the rocker compares to the CA50. The rocker is almost the same as my smaller speed board which from memory is a bit higher both at 1200 and 1800 than the CA44. It has 15 mm more nose rocker than my small one and is a bees dick higher at 1200. Also a touch less V right through.

Not sure why the Logo was not put in the centre. I think he offsets them on all his boards and did the same, problem is it looks a bit wrong on this board because of the symetrical stripes and the really hollowed out deck. At least a designer w....ker like me finds it looks wrong, it probably wouldn't bother normal human beings. As I said if the logo position is all I have to bitch about then I am really struggling to find any fault!!!

The mast track is off centre on the drawing, it is a hand sketch not a CAD model and yep I screwed up. but an interesting idea to offset it. In fact I have been doodling a full assymetrical speed board for a while now.
