I just bought new /used JP 118L board 2012 and can't wait to have my hands or legs on her.
Shipping will take some time...
Because this is my first proper slalom board I wonder what will be ideal setup and conditions to have the max fun of new board ?
I have range of sails from 4.2 to 8.0 and other boards from 84 to 130L so this new baby will be for special occasion at first.
What should I use this board for?
Blasting on flat or handles small chop too?
Practice planing carve gybes?
What the best wind range 20 to 30 ktn?

At 118 litres and likely 70 cm plus wide,this board is designed for light to medium wind.

A 6.5 to 7.0m in 15-20 knots with a 40cm fin or 8m with a 42cm fin in 12-15 knots.

You just bought one of the fastest mid size slalom boards around! Ideal sailsizes are 7.0 to 8.0. Bigger does work but smaller def. not. Board can handle a lot of wind, you stay fully in control in windspeeds up to 30 knots. Also gets planning pretty quick, depending on your weight the board should work from 12 knots up.

Dunno if you have any fins but C3 Sting II and Tectonics Talon work pretty well. When going for speed get a 38 cm fin for 7.0 and a 40 cm for anything above 7.5, dunno about sailsizes above 8.0 but my guess is a 42 cm fin will do fine. If you're more focused on slalom/ upwind racing just go 2 cm bigger on the fin. So a 40 cm with 7.0 etc.

You should def. try downwind speedruns on flat water with this board. It's blistering fast! 60+ avg and 65+ max is easy within the capabilities of this board. When pushed and with enough rider skill the board goes over 65+ avg and max speeds over 70.

Also try the board in chop, you'll be amazed. It can give a hoovering feeling just skimming the top of the chop with the tail of the board.

Setup wise, put the front straps all the way back, rear straps in the first to last position. Mastbase position should be pretty far back. You should be able to just see the full square at the end of the masttrack.

Just for fun and more excitement Sometimes in good wind you are full power and we do drag race to other side for fun .
Then suddenly appear that guys on modern equipment passed me like nothing.
( I Used mostly wave board, and my board was always last to start planning)
This time there is no excuse- if so, there is MY FAULT...

with that one new board I do not opt for max top speed (for that smaller boar will do) but for reasonable speed at moderate rough conditions.
One day I may go back to Brisbane amateur Sunday races (since I did improved on my gibing at speed recently from just a few successfull to more then 20 in one row )

First test ride today , all I could say it is fantastic, nothing I did sail so far could compare.

Rigged with 8.0 RAM and 37 cm Black Project fin board went into overdrive in no time at all.
Smooth , instant acceleration , effortless also, just slide into plane in a seconds.


Amazingly easy to gybe , once its planing, can't stop
Handles chop very well, slicing over at high speed.

I did organized in last minute special protector on the mast to save the nose just in case, but it wasn't needed at all. Platform is so stable during the ride and gybing...

Possibly I need bigger fin for 8.0 sail as on one or two occasions spin out, or I just applied too much pressure on back foot,

Hey Macro, you can try my Maui Tectonics fin, it's a T-73 (Talon) 42 cm. Let me know when you plan to go to Shearwater or KFC. I'll be selling it soon as I have size 38, 40 and 44 for my JP66 (108L) and don't rally need it.

I tried the jp slalom 2012 108L yesterday in 20+ knots with a two cam 7.0, Like Macro I also found it was real quick to get on the plane with great acceleration, on the down side I found it very "physical" to handle (back leg copping it) and couldn't find the purpose of those "bump stops" on the deck....

You were right, I went with 7.4m 38cm fin and 30 ktn (when gusting) few days ago. It was more like ice skating then windsurfing
Board simply running out beneath your feet without any resistance at all after waterstart
No definitely I will not do the same mistake again.
Definitely fin too small for such condition board sliding side ways at lower speed, but to fast to even to release full power on that massive chop.

but after wind drops to 22-25 I was perfectly fine.
