Anyone sailed a 132 or 118? Suitable for a 78kg intermediate in choppy conditions looking to progress from a bigger board In 15-20 knots?

I had a season on a JP Magic Ride 104. (not the size you asked). They are brilliant in the medium and low wind range. It took me a few good rides to sort it out. i.e. where to put the straps and what sail in each 5 knot bracket



. What ever sail you normally use given a wind strength drop it 0.5 meter smaller to start off. Ie when I would have been on 7.5 I used 6.7 with 36 fin. It took off like no other. This pic is a 6.7 Fusion and Magic 104 in choppy Redcliffe.

For your weight I would suggest you look at 104 for 15-20knots. The other two you mentioned are going to be to big for 15-20. I'm actually getting a 118 to use in 10-15 knots and I'm a lot heavier than you.

I agree with ULF. Maybe you should look at the 104 for your weight. I use to own a fanatic hawk that was 120 litres but really struggled to up haul it. I now own Starboards version of the magic ride which is the Stbd Atomic and can up haul it no problems. I have the 110 litres which is 75cm wide. The width is great for low wind gybes and up haul if necessary and have always been able to get home without swimming. With thinner rails, when you gybe at high speed the rails sink in and doesn't skip out like a board of that width normally would. I'm about 90kg. Someone had a 2014 for 1600 in SA in sea breeze.

Thanks guys for the feedback. So, the narrow tail on these boards is the key to comfort in chop even though they've got the extra width?

Get the Magic Ride 104, one of the best boards I have ridden , and a better size for you, I am 84 kg and it gets going in very little wind, you will be very happy with it.

That's a pretty big rap F2, so do you reckon with the right technique I could get a 104 planing with my 2 cam 7.7 free ride sail in about 12 knots?

No is the answer. 12 knots will need a bigger board. Even though it is 68cm wide the narrow tails don't work well with massive rigs like 7.7 with cams.
Remember the secret with these boards is you can use smaller rigs. If you go out with a 7.7 it wont feel right. As I said it took a me a few sails to work them out.
If you want to use 7.7 in 12 knots then the 118 would suit that a lot better. You can't make one board cover so much wind range. You will need one for 10-15 and another for 15-20.
