Out of interest, I'm offered a good deal on a 7.3 gp2 (cause they don't have the GPS)

Just wondering if anyone on here owns one or has tried one ?

feedback ?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks mate, do you use a RDM ? I read that you can use both, as I have a 4.60 sdm I'm not in a hurry to change.
Would it be okay ?

Would you rate the sail as "fast" ?

It will rig on a SDM with the SDM cams that come with the sail......I use a RDM. The first time I took it out I got a Nautical mile PB so it is a fast sail. I expect to improve all my numbers this summer with it.

Thanks for that legless !!

I will start peace talk with the minister of finance and go on from there (brand new 2012 GP2 7.3 @ 480$ : does it sound like a good price to you ?)

hey Sean,

Mark Jordan (known as aussieboats on this site) uses the GPS for open water, and the GP2 for the short runs in the river and he rates it because it is quick, easy to rig and not as cumbersome to gybe when doing short runs across the river. Maybe send him a PM if you are still unsure.

Cheers, Adam

Took my GP2 7.3 for a spin this morning third time on it. Still very impressed how comfortable and stable it is to sail.

I tried one two weeks ago. A 6.6m HSM GP2. First time I've used a cammed sail I've used for quite a long time, around two years. Compared to the HSM Speed Demons I have I found the draft quite locked in with more of a shape. It was confortable and stable to use though noticable heavier than a Speed Demon 6.6.

Overall for me I prefer the Speed Demons though I know they are not being made anymore. However if I buy a larger sail of around 8m I'll be happy to buy a GP2.

You can get a SpeedFreak which is even lighter than the Speed Demon but the same shape.

As for the weight I sail Speed Demons as well and was not aware of and significant difference in weight only being 2 cams and not having a very wide luff. A 6.6 speed Demon weighs 4.9kg and a 6.6 GP2 weighs 5kg 100grams difference!

Perhaps it was the feel of the sail rather than the actual weight. Having a deeper draft could make a sail feel heavier.

When I buy more sails I don't think, but can't rule out getting a speed freak. I'll probably go with super freaks for smaller sails and GP2s for larger sails.

Took the 9.7m speed Demon for a spin yesterday, great sail best no cam freeride sail I have used. However the GP2 is better, easyier to rig, faster, more stable, more low end. It will be interesting to see how the new GPS goes/compares.....should be getting mine in January.
