I am interested in buying a goya quad 2017 or 18 for sails 4.5 to 5.7 ( i use taka 5.3 which has the power of a 5.7) i weight 85 kg and sail mostly in side on shore cond 65 % i have a fanatic quad 82 lt which sails fine with 5.3 and less I also want to use the quad for jumping in marginal 5.7 conditions Could the 96 be ok or the 106 would be better The 2018 104 could be fine but i like more the straight rocker and wider 2017 quads

I weigh around 75 kg, and my biggest sail is a 5.7, my biggest board is a 96 (JP), and it's a great combo for me for the light stuff, but I have friends who weigh closer to your weight and they use mostly 6.0 to 6.2's on 102's for the light stuff. Something to consider, a quad is a bit slower to get up on a plane than a single or a tri, a large center fin helps a bunch. (ocean/waves only w/ my opinion)

I sail in 14 + knots and the 5.3 ezzy taka is revolutionary in terms of low end I set the boom 1.64 and with 95 + board i can plane in marginal cond Maybe a 5.5 zeta would be a little better for planning and jumping but i do not like to use bigger sails than 5.7 with > 180 boom.I used to sail with a 5.7 most of the times until i bought the 5.3 taka. Regarding big boards i do not have much experience I have a witchcraft flextail more than 100 lt and i can use it with no problems with 4 .0 the control is great it turns like a small board (-15 lt) very tight but i have to be careful in jumping due to the tail The feeling is strange even if it is compact you feel the volume on your feet This board is also very technical and different to other boards to ride . I would like to have goya quad around 95 100 lt but i do not know how it feels maybe the 106 feels like a big board with good manoeuvrability good enough for rides and jumping or the 96 feels more alive and can plane as fast for my weight. I have seen great videos with MB in side onshore and they say it is fast enough for jumps too

I have the 2017 Goya Quad 106. I weigh 89kg and sail it with anything from 4.7 to 6.2m Blades in mostly cross-on conditions.

I consulted directly with Pascal at Goya to help decide between the 96 and the 106 before I bought. I'm very glad I bought the 106. Goya designed these boards to ride 10 litres more than you normally would. Ie. If you would usually ride a 96, go for the 106.

I use the 96 with sails up to 5.7, but for me having 90kg it's my small board, and i never felt the volume in a negative way.
I did also own the 116 Quad for two years and also this board never felt "big" untill witha 4.5 and solid wind
So for your 85 kg and because you have the 82 Grip as your small board i think you can go to a 106 without worrying too much about the volume of the board.

A good friend of mine in Cape Town, South Africa has the 96 L Goya custom quad and then bought the 2018 104 L Goya quad as his light wind board. He likes the new 104 L so much he now uses it from 4.2 to 5.7 and doesn't use the 96 L any more. I think he is around 90 kg. He said he feels like he's finally found a "one-board quiver solution".

So in 2018 little less flat area a little more kick and scoop

Searching for Keeping speed or better accelerate through turn - good planning handle chop and acceptable jumps characteristics
I think both 2017 and 2018 are good maybe the 2017 is more friendly I will go for the 106 2017 or 104 2018

Maybe you can also consider the Thruster 99. As the 2018 Quad is more radical than the previous generations, the thruster now is the board with more allround character.
I'll change my 2017 Quad 96 now for the Thruster 99, the 99 having less width and more V than the 96, and i guess rocker about the same.

Yes the thruster is an option It is wider in the middle and the tail in the smaller sizes whereas the 99 is less wide in the middle and wider in the tail than the 106 It also has enough scoop and Rocker
But when it comes to three fin setup i prefer withcraft My cousin has 92 v3 and i have taken it many times . It is an agreesive direct fast board with unbelievable turning abilities can be used even in side on due to it s good planning characteristics for a wave board (no flat areas) and it is ok in chop. When we compared it to an RRD firewave 92 a trifin board with straight rocker for onshore wave we could not believe how better the witchcraft was. It has little less control than the new v4 that needs a little more foot pressure for turning.
