I have a fanatic freewave stby 85L 2017. Will be looking to replace in the near future.
can anyone tell me how the newer shape fanatic (errr duotone) freewave boards handle ? compared to the stby.

and how about the Goya 3one? Compared to stby?
and how about Goya 3one vs fanatic/duotone freewave in the 85L

Is one more suited for wave riding the other for more b&j ?

I had a 2023 Goya One 3 105L for a bit (me 88 kg.). I sailed it from 5.0 up to 6.3 on the Northsea and flatwater spots, only with the single back strap, never with the double straps in the back.

The board is plug & play and fun. Well behaved and never out of control, even in the most choppy conditions. It turns well, gybing is a breeze. I found that it was more on the B&J spectrum of things as opposed to 'wave'. After a couple of months I traded it in for a Quatro Cube 106.

If you're looking for a FSW that's more capable in the waves, I recommend having a look at the Quatro Power. I have this one in 115L and it is a waveboard in disguise, at least much more then the Goya One 3, in my opinion.

Why not think about a Flikka board. Would be cheaper, the build quality is IMO better. The shapes are solid and can be modified according to Your preferences. The Freewave or the Thruster could be right for Your needs.

I have 2 x Goya 1's ,, 115 and 96 just come off a session with the big one today., they are ACE!
Reasonably Fast to plane , smooth ride, solid build, both gybe on a dime , easy to sail plug and play lots of fun, they 'feel' great you feel connected with the water and elements and and in control even when you shouldn't be!

Can you go fast? Yes, are they the fastest No
Can you jump them? Yes, could a lighter faster board jump higher Yes
Are they well built/Durable ? Yes
Can you ride waves with them? Yes, would they ride as well as a dedicated wave board , No
Smooth ride, or jittery ride? Smooth
Gybing? Awesome
Stability? Both very stable with **** wind
Ride size feel? Both feel smaller when your on the go than what you have if that makes sense, ive ridden both OTT
Do they look cool? Very
Shape/rails /bottom. really soft rails, lots of shape in the bottom , rocker seems just right for early planing but still being able to get out over waves etc ...ive buried the nose section deep into some waves and also nose down waves etc and it just rides through and under and pops out

Mine are a few years old now.. ( i don't think they have changed much over the years) only gripe is the US centre Box , I'd rather a PB .
I'm sure there are faster and lighter FSW boards out there for blasting , but if you want one that is more surf oriented and comfortable they would be hard to beat.

I think the one is pardon the pun but just 'one' of those classic designs that just works... they should heritage list the design so no one can bugger it up.!

you don't see many 2nd hand ones for sale ... probably for good reason.

I have a Goya one 116 liter, great all around board. Highly recommend it in your volume.

How are the stock mfc fins? When i had my one fanatic freewave , i yanked the mfc fins off. Switched to black project fins...which was mich better. But that was 6 or 7 years ago.

The mfc fins seem good , but I mostly use makani weed fins.

I'd go Goya.

I have new Fanatic Freewave shape, and before that Goya One. I prefer the new Freewave to the Goya. The wave sailing abilities are about the same, but the new Freewave is more pleasant to sail when not on a wave. Plus the deck isn't as domed as the Goya so more stable if you ever have to slog.
if wavesailing is more than 50% of your intended use then the Quatro Power is better than both the Goya and the Fanatic in the waves.

Really good actually. I ran the Goya One with the stock fin, never had the idea that it wasn't doing what it should do.

I went with the Goya 85L... gonna go with stock fin setup. Buuutttt. .I always like to mess around with different fin combos. Stock is 20cm/10cm.. Anyone have any other good combinations ? Even if it's not a Goya ? My fanatic freewave 85 I used black project 17.5/11.5 which is really nice . ( will see if I can convert my slot box to MT) if it was really nukin' I used a 16.5/11.5.

Thought I would post an update. I finally got to sail the Goya 3 one freewave 85L today. Although it was a quick session. It is really nice. Turning/carving is really nice. The fanatics freewave stby 85L that I have is great in turns.but the Goya is better.
but anyway initial ride today was great. If anyone is considering this board..its nice.

so far. (limited experience maybe 3 sessions). I think in choppy waters the fanatic stubby has a bit higher top end speed. they both seem to get up to plane the same. the Goya is much more smoother and the carves/turns. (I always thought the fanatic was a good turning board).
the Goya does seem to be a bit stiffer ? could be I am used to fanatic...and maybe fanatic is soft/softer b/c of all the hard landings on it...I dont know. it's not a complaint on the Goya...just an observation. really like Mini Tuttle...first board to have it.

I am liking the Goya...b/c at 85L I am more concerned with maneuverability than top end speed (Goya is quite fast). Also this board handle almost identical to JP boards ...in my opinion .

It can be stiffer from how it hits the chop up front and from construction (material type, layers, orientation, etc).
