Looking at updating my mast for my 2010 5.4 excess, currently rigging rather badly on a old x3, been looking at masts for sail and the x6, x9 are way to expensive. Have found a Gaastra rdm 75% at a good price but i was wondering if this would rig on the np ok?

Also looking at the new point 7 sails, in particular the ACX no cam 7.4, does anyone have any reviews on these sails?

Cheers

Hi Lee,

here's a post from Holland....
have all pryde and the infamous x9 wave. If you can grab one of those, dynamite.....
some guys in NL use gaastra, i think the curve is not correct. You could try dynafiber or caas.

on point 7, I sailed my 2011 p7 AC 0 7.5 yesterday on NP x6. worked realy well. combination is very nice, sailed it on RRD fsw115 2009 and choco 38 fin, single strapped

so resumee; stick to pryde, if budget allows, pick x9!

Not surprised that Excess doesn't rig well on the X3! I had an 06 5.4 Excess which I initially rigged on a 430 X3 SDM. Played around with setup for some time but decided to trade X3 in on X6 SDM which was a good decision as Excess worked much better on X6.

WARNING: Bend curve of Gaastra 75% rdm is very different to NP masts (stiff-top as opposed to NP masts which are flex-top), specs from Boards mag 430 mast test:

Tushingham masts have the same bend curve as NP masts and appear to be a much cheaper option. Suggest contacting 2nd Wind Perth who are distributors.

Which issue of Boards is that from? Because I think if it's like 2009 the Gaastra masts have changed bend curve since then.

I cant say if they go gaastra mast into NP but i've used a couple of x6's in gaastra's and they rig pretty well.

430cm mast test in May 2007 Boards mag, so maybe not that current if Gaastra mast specs have changed recently (worth checking with local Gaastra distributors).
