A few months ago I contacted WindWarrior about their blast shields and sizes for women. They got straight back to me with the news that they would soon be launching a women’s fit blastshield and new combo wettie. They also offered to support the Speed Divas and we all now have our own team blastshield. A few of the Divas will post their review on the women’s cut blastshield in the next few days.
I got to try the new women’s combo wettie and I do believe that after years of compromise, I may have found the perfect wetsuit for me. I have always found that there hasn’t been much choice in women’s wetsuits and that they tended to be quite restrictive and heavy in the arms and shoulders. I am also quite tall, so finding a wetsuit that I could actually stand up straight in has also been a challenge. Up until now, my solution has been to wear a sleeveless short john which was ok but wasn’t the warmest option and didn’t provide much protection. Plus water tended to flow in through the armholes and then get trapped by my harness which wasn’t exactly a good look and the added weight has tended to make light wind water starts a bit of a challenge.
I gave my new WindWarrior combo wettie a pretty good workout at Gnaraloo and It came up trumps. The metalite material in the upper body made it noticeably lighter and really easy to move around in. It was just really comfortable. The leg length was slightly longer than in most other wetsuits that I have worn and when I first tried it on I thought it might be too long. But once I was windsurfing in it, the longer length seemed to be the better option as the material never rode up or moved around on my leg like some of the shorter lengths can sometimes do especially during stacks. All in all, I couldn’t be happier with it.
There is not much in the way of functional women’s windsurfing wear, so if you are in the market for a wettie I think that the WindWarrior range is worth a good look. Yes, yes, I know they are sponsoring the Speed Divas but after years of so little in the way of women’s designs, if you find something good, I reckon its worth shouting about.
Cheers
