Got my Fanatic 9' 6" Allwave SUP out on Friday with a 5.8 in about 8-10 knots, Very impressed with It's easy surfing design. I'm new to SUP's and had no idea how to make them work when I first headed out, Easy as to punch out through the waves but not so easy to turn. It didn't take long to work it out though and I was soon having the most fun I've ever had under 20 knots. I caught some waves, Knee high up to shoulder high and it was so easy. Catch them early or catch them late it did not matter, This board is so user friendly. At 174L this board has more than enough float for my 95kg body, 81.3cm wide it's super stable and 290cm long fits in the Iload without a problem. Without a sail it has the same easy surfing nature as it does with a sail, Even a gumby like me was catching waves within minutes. I've been for a paddle down the river a few times and found it quite enjoyable. It's not the fastest board as far as flatwater goes, Feels a little boggy but since it was designed for surfing rather then flatwater I think it's performance is fine. There are some minor issues I have, I think it would have been better with a full mast track just to allow some tuning. And even though It's light as far as SUPs go It's hard to carry to the water as a complete kit, I think I'll make up some sort of strap to attach to the leg rope attachment in order to pick the board up with the sail attached.

Anyways here's a quick vid from the morning sesh, Don't pick on me as I'm no wave sailor but I had a whole lot of fun. The GoPro died before I had a chance to worked it all out. The conditions and my sailing only got better as the day progressed, Would I recommend one...Yes I would.

but what the ?!$@# is going on with your harness lines? do they just have one velcro ring? i've never seen that before.

They look like harness lines for a kite I think.
Did you get your big oes quad?
It should get you out there at gerroa in light winds.
Mind you at 174lt the sup should be easy to catch the waves.

New schools wave/freestyle lines, they are good on smaller sails as they give heaps of movement and instant power on or off. I use them on my sails up to 5.8 but any bigger I use the standard lines as they give more stability. They have a single point of attachment and when powered up they feel very stable, they just give you the ability to move the sail around very easily. When slogging they do feel a little unbalanced but you soon get use to them. I don't see many around but I like them.

I too am a believer that SUP in small waves with a <6m sail is great fun.

I use my 10' Fanatic Fly in the waves when it's so light that not even the kiters can get going. Only limiting factor would be it doesn't like waves over 3' much. Can get a bit hairy......and wiping out on big boards requires you to watch out the board doesn't hit you or bend you mast base at unusual angles.

Still a lot of fun though.
