I'm looking for an allround trifin wave board. I've owned and like very much starboard ultrakode, but I don't find it cheap. I've found cheap these two options: exocet xwave 2019 and fanatic triwave 2017, but I fear they are too on shore, or stiff to turn. I would use them in rather big size (90 liters) for my weight (70 kg) for two different purposes: side shore float and ride and side on shore light wind planning .

Any experience is well appreciated.

I forgot to say I prefer models with usbox in the central fin for strength (I'm old school).

I have 2017 version (blue) of exocet xwave 73lt but used it only several times, and tried the fanatic freewave 2017 85lt once, didn't try them on proper waves but neither felt like wave boards.

Xwave is slow to plane but very fast once planing, and very controlled over chop. They come with huge fins and i didn't try other fins yet, thats why it felt a little sluggish to turn, so i guess changing fins and playing around would help it a lot.
Freewave was early planing and fast but too stiff at turns and over chop, still good board for b&j but i wouldn't take it for waves.
I would say xwave is better choice as you can use for both scenarios by playing with fins.

I have an X-Wave 101, Its a brilliant board, very quick to plane and turns very smoothly.
Only down side is that halfway through the turn you can't really change it much, some board you can crank on a little more back foot to tighten up the turn but not on this board. I'll never get rid of this board as its just soo good.

Thanks all. They say xwave come with pretty big central fins. Have you tried to change it to an smaller one?

Yours is the red one from 2019?

Think my board is from 2015, but its the same shape as the red ones.

I use a 21cm onshore select wave fin with 3 degrees Ezzy 12 cm side fins, I also sometimes use it with just a 25cm centre fin.
I did have normal 9cm sides but the 12cm 3 degree fins make it bite a little more in the turns, little more sluggish to get going but once moving they seem fine. Usually use this board with 5.7m down to 4.8m sails.

Which are the wave conditions to use the xwave and could you tell me your weight?

I like very much K4 ezzy toed side fins.

I'm 91kg with wetsuit and everything, wetsuit harness and rig, probably 100kg all up.

I do have a quad only 2 litres more nut completely different boards.
I sail northern NSW cross on conditions, quite fast rips and waist to over head high waves.
If I was sailing a point break which we sail from time to time I'd use the quad.
Also bought a Patrik 113 litre board for light wind days, which seems to work well.

The thruster boxes on the X-Wave have no toe in so use the Ezzy fins.
