John from seabreeze talked me into trying out these foot straps, I'm a bit of a tight a---, wouldn't normally spend that much for 3 straps, but it was Xmas money, so what the hell!
Tried them out the last 2 days. Fantastic!!! well worth the extra, super comfortable, great grip, but easy to get out of. Reasuring in the waves, no tendency for back foot to come out in jumps, even thou strap was loose for bottom turns.
Because of the contours, (cone shaped to fit your feet) they grip over the whole strap width, not just the front edge. They stay upright, and don't flop down, making them easy to get into.
Only possible disadvantage I can see, is ease of adjustment. That has to be done with a philips screwdriver, (undo the screws and change mounting holes in strap)

I got massive blisters last year off the footstraps on my acid, changed the straps to some old crappy ones and problem solved.

Only thing is I re-fitted the standard Starboard ones again when I was intending to sell the board .....didn't sell it ..... forgot about the horrible straps...limping around like a bas*ard after 2 big sessions recently.

How much are those straps?

Sorry, figures don't stay in my head very long these days, I think I payed $84, my wife thinks $89, for the set of 3.
one thing that fooled me, is the stainless steel plates, that fit between the plastic top caps and the strap. the plates were attached to the double screw caps, and I was using the single screw caps. Didn't work out that I had to remove the plates from the double caps and fit to the single, untill I had fitted all 3 straps. I overtightened the last screw, and blew the bottom out of the plastic, can't happen if the plate is there!

Didn't think I was making much sense, but it'll become clear as soon as you open the packet. Just make sure the stainless plates are under the plastic bits that you use, not the plastic bits left lying on the bench!

Think I'll have to get a job, talking in riddles.

When I first bought the DaKine contour footstraps I was really pleased with them. I bought a pair for each of my 2 boards. A year or so later I was very disappointed to find that they did not last very long. The plastic pieces crack and snap very easily and I have so far torn three of the 6 straps.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

John said when he sold them to me, that he'd had one set last 3 boards, mind you, he didn't say how often he changed his boards.

No I do not remember the steel plates. Hopefully that does the trick. Please let me know how things work out with them as I would love to get another set if they no longer break.

I didn't notice them either, until I overtightened one of the screws and broke the plastic! Had a look at the double screw plastic bits to see if I could use that in some way, and low and behold, all the "doubles" had plates under them. Instructions doesn't mention them, so I suspect a few people who are just using a single screw, have made the same mistake.

So how long do you think it'll be before we know if this is the answer????

The starboard racestraps are worth a go, though could be overkill on a wave board. Best stock straps I've found so far were the ones that came on my JP supercross. Very comfortable and durable.

wait until winter... the rubber is nice and comfy in the warm weather but goes really hard in the cold! Tears nice chunks out of your feet.

the dakine contour straps. I reckon I've got about 7-8 sets of them kicking around the shed somewhere... should go find 'em and give them to some of these crew that like them.
I found them fine when I was sailing in Maui a lot, but over here they kill me.

So where's overhere??? Tassy I hope, but there again the board I've put them on is mainly a summer board, I'll try it in winter and see how they feel.

Nah - I'm in Perth. And I reckon the winters here are actually pretty bloody cold!! None of my mates in the Europe seem to believe that, though...
