the Vector Volt G10 is the best 28-35 size fin to i have used in high wind and rough water out of the Maui based brands.

I got a cl2 34cm for my Patrick 100l slalom. This board didn't like my collection of Tectonics fins, others had commented that it needed something stiffer. I never felt I had the board locked down, it always felt a little flighty. Going bigger fin helped but then it didn't feel great in bumpy water.

the cl2 slapped the Patricks nose down and made it behave, gave me more confidence to charge and drive off the fin. It did also feel slippery and made it easy to go fast. I don't know how much of my speed was attributed by the added confidence the fin provided or the fine foil, either way it worked.

I used the fin for my first sail in about 6 months with a 7m loft racing blade ( a relatively new sail I'm still tweaking), it was 20-25 knots. With some tweaking and more TOW I think this will will be a very sweet combo.

quietly confident for some more testing tomorrow in 20-25knts .... But sshh I dint want to jinx the forecast.

My my only gripe with carbon fins (first time for me) is they tend to mark very easily. I must have hit something as I noticed it had a slight divet on the leading edge and score marks from sitting in the sand. I might have to leave the sheath on full time

Has anyone used a CL2 on iSonics? IF so how are they?

I got a 33 and a 38 mainly for the iS90 and iS110 respectively but
have even used the 33 in my iS97 with a 7.8 and it was excellent.
Totally blew my mind that a fin that small could even manage a combo like that. The 38 in the iS110 is magical too. In fact I reckon I could get away with a 36 easily powered up. The really noticeable thing is just how well the board trims itself and gybing feels very smooth with them. Another positive is when things get hairy they
seem to keep the tail of the board in control as opposed to the tail
getting severe jitters.

Yesterday was using my CL 46 fin in my Patrik 122 with a 7m rigged with little downhaul and outhaul. Wind waa around 10-14 knots.

On the plane nearly all the time. I thought a 46 fin might be too too big for a 77.5 cm board with a 7m but perfect.

I'm the other way,I prefer a bit bigger fin seeing I'm not interested in doing GPS.

The rounded tip I believe helps to make the fin smoother and in the gusts helps to keep the board down,though I'm no expert.

A square tip fin will plane even better I think but lack gears. The exceptional stiffness of the carbon CL fins also help them to get going early.

Very happy with my fin.

Don't be afraid to do radical experiments. I've used a 34cm in an 85 wide slalom and an 80 wide freeride, both in strong wind with a 6.5m sail. It worked well for speed runs, just took a little longer to get up to grip speed when starting off.

You don't have sand on your beaches

As as much as I hate having my board on the beach fin down, there's usually a few feral kids on the beach who'd end up impaling themselves if it was left pointing up.

nothing peeves me more than see the said feral kids jumping on my board with fin down in sand.

Finaly got the chance to have some session with the sl2 44 and 38 (fit on the M137).
Used the 44 mainly with the 8.6 but also with the 9.5. First thing I've noticed is the SUPER BROAD range of use.It works in 10-13 kts with the 9.5 and ALSO in 13-22 kts with the 8.6! But the best part is that you WON'T left ANY SPEED around. I mean.I was used to the need of switch down fin size as soon as the wind increased because of control problems or speed losses.It's not the case with the M137/cl2 44. I wanted push it more and more in order to see what is the limit.I'm not a pro and I can say I easily was out in rolling chop side off while others were on 110/38/7.8 with kts 20+. (Maybe) I wasn't faster in 18+ kts but,for sure, I wasn't slower...
The board flies super smooth and,even in the strong gusts,the nose never comes up or sticks down when you bend too much the fin.Also the back leg never burns during the speed blasts because because there's never too much fin presence.With this stuff,usually,as soon a strong gust hits I used sheet out.Now the confidence is so high that I just bear off and accellerate!
First time experience with the 38 was stunning. CL said me about the magic combination with the M137. I'd say he was totally right. Same spot than the day before but stronger wind.Forced to use a non NP sail (loft Blade 7.8).Not sure it would have worked good combined with the M as it has not the same low range and "lift ability" in light wind for given size of the NP.
No way.I fired the fastest guy over here using the IS 110/e6 7,8/z38 in 18-26 kts!!!!! He stayed all the time asking what problem got its kit! First 20' my board was a flyer as the less fin surface allows for a freer ride.Also the way to bend the 38 is different.Just ease the leg pressure and let it go.Then,lowered a bit the boom height and played my game.Never had something better in my windsurf life!! I know,it sounds like rookie words but my surprise is so huge because I've tested so many (good) stuff that I can feel the real difference.
Compared to my Z fins the CL is surely more comfy and,at high revs,probably faster.You don't have to be 110 kg to bend it and be fast.Not the case with the Z,that are fast till some point.With the CL it seems you forget about the fin (having always it feedbacking you). Also the gybes were so smooth that in the begining (38) I was slower than the stuff to react to. Accelleration from standing still is great.Maybe a bit better than others.
Tests 8.6/7.8 were done vs Falcon '15 111/warp '15 7.8/z38 - IS 117w/Aero+ 7.9/Boss38 - IS 110/e6 7.8/z38.

Chris let me borrow two of his carbon 36 cm fins. Tested them on my 107 Sonic with a 5.5m

They are both pre-production SL3 fins I think.

The first 36 i tested had 13 degrees of rake from memory,the second has 10 degrees of rake.

What I noticed for absolute certain was the fin with the greater rake lifted the board more.

As in much,much more. And a good bit better thru the lulls too.

I felt I had more top end with the fin with the greater rake also.

Felt much sweeter too. I disliked the low raked fin but it might be better suited to using a bigger sail.

Are they any faster than a G10 fin?

Still have not made my mind up! More testing required. For a lightweight I'm not convinced but for a heavier guy they probably are.

I tried another brand 36 cm G10 and it felt too small or the 107 Sonic sort of going sideways especially when not powered up.

So you can definitely can go smaller when using these carbon fins--- by some margin.

I see Slowboat has been using some new model fins on GPSTC, code name PM33. I can only assume these are a new peter Mac special edition which will come in a special aluminium foil cover.
Already got my order in for a 38

can i take a smaller carbon chris lockwood than the g10 tribal version ? in terms of power / early planning ?

These fins sound like "I need one", where do I get one in WA, shop or CL direct?

Tip: 31.5 CL2 is amazeballs in the 92 Patrik! 6.2 and 7.0m sails. Upwind and downwind you couldnt get a better fin !
