Hi interested to hear comments on 'boom shapes' not brand or heads or anything, just the difference between the two shape styles going about.

Hopefully this pic shows what I'm talking about.

I expect the wider front end style is designed for really deep profile race sails?
Does this mean its not suitbale for RAF or Wave sails?

With the compact clew design of slalom sails now, there is a possibility I could run with 1 boom that will cover 2 slalom sails and 1 wave sail.

can't see why you couldn't, my 180/240 covers my 5.7/6.7 and 7.8.
(mind you the 5.7 isn't compact clew....)

The reason for the shape of the first one is due to the boom being a monocoque (1 piece) design, I use a similar one for wavesails no probs

Actually the top one won't work with big sails, the widest part is way in the front so as to keep both hands parallel with each other.
The second design has the widest part more towards the deepest part of the sail.

Probably a better phrased question,
Thoughts and comments on any performace/feel difference between the two styles?
Thanks Robbo about comments, on your using your mono with wave sails being ok, I had it in my head they were only good for Slalom (no reason for thinking such)

Without laying those booms on top of each other no one can know which boom is wider and where (apart from obviously near the clamp), i have been through a few different brands of booms and find that some booms are not wide enough to bag out a 5m wave sail, it is worth doing your research into this if you wish to avoid the rub marks on the window of your sail from a narrow boom.

My sail touches the boom all the way up to the harness lines. Nothing wrong with that, the narrow boom is more important.

the first boom is sick for waves and freestyle

second boom is good slalom

I've found newer shape more comfortable as the front hand does not need to twist as much.

Also found reduced diameter (28mm) grip more comfortable less fatigue.

found a 'Aeron' mono at my local going at a good price, looks much better build quality than some of the others, pretty heavy though...will see how the power of the 'V' shape goes.... Aeron seem to get good reviews....
