I'm looking for a 120L board, to complement my 107 JP FSW and 85L Fanatic Goya FSW. I learned on a Go 155 which I might sell to a mate, so I'm looking for something for the lighter wind days.

An Xcite Ride? Futura? Or maybe the iSonic?

I sail in Port Phillip Bay and am 78kgs.

What do you suggest I should look at?

I had a 110 l x-cite ride. Great board and was good matched to a larger sail on the light days. I weigh 89 kgs.

xcite or futura will handle chop better than isonic, and gybe better as well, but isonic will have better top end on flatter water.
I have a 120 futura for bay conditions at 85kgs, prob would prefer 111 for less width and controlled jumping, due to its width the 120 can get a bit flighty and tend to nose roll in the air when it launches.

Have you checked the banner ads on Seabreeze for the Carbon Art boards? They look really good and the price looks very reasonable. We mainly hear about the CA speedboards but they make a full range of shortboards.

I can only put my hands up for the Carve after having both a 131 and 99, just sweet on every detail. I was able to pull off decent jumps on my 131 Carve but for some reason I can't on my 125 Wizzard. Futura being it successor, I would put my backing behind that.

Ive got a 130lt Xcite and love it though Im 100kgs. A 120 should be great for you. Rate them really highly and so do a lot of others with far greater experience than me who have ridden it.

The bay can get quite choppy when its windy... my question would be "what type of sailing are you looking at doing with the 120l"?

At 78kg, you are not a heavy weight, so your 107 JP should be big enough to use a 7.5m in the lighter seabreezes the bay gets during summer.

I have to agree with wormy. I was in your position 2 yrs ago and bought the 122 futura. Gr8 board but really wish i went with the 110 or 100.
But you already have a 107fsw. Save youe bucks and buy some good sails.

I've just been looking at these - does anyone have any experience with the CA freeride boards?

I would back the Futura 122 100%, i have spent many good fun hours on last years 122 in about 14 to 20 knots with a 7.5m and these boards are so much fun for freeride sailing, they crank up wind, you can really blast across and down wind on them, and they are a pretty fast board, i found myself going faster and faster on it and they stay in control through almost any water condition.. even at full speed.. after every sail i found myself telling everyone how good they are, starboard have done an amazing job with these boards..

I have a 2009-110L xcite PE so obviously guess what I'll tell you

Its for the 2008 120l freeride boards, but it will give you a rough idea - the xcites did change shape a fair bit from the 2008 to 2009, 2009 and 2010 are identical. The 2009 felt livelier to the 2008. The 2008 schlogged easier and the 2009 planed mariginally earlier (maybe its because its a PE), apart from that both did everything well and easily.

With your Fanatic and JP you currently must have a quiver of Powerbox fins - Going to Futura will introduce Tuttle box fins to your quiver - Maybe it won't matter to you but you should at least be aware.

I'm about 80kgs and have the 09 F111 Red Wood. I use to have 08 F122 Wood. The F122 on bay was good for 7.5m size sails upwards I found. When the wind was greater the bay conditions real started to unsettle the board. The F111 works real well with 7.5m down to about 6.5m on the bay. I'm lucky as I then can step down the F93 and this board I have nicked named Mosses as it parts the sea and makes the bay flat. If you are looking at 7.2m downwards consider teh F101.
The biggest thing i advise any one is to get a set of suitable fins for the sailing style and conditions.

With the right rig you should be sailing your 107 in 15knts, if your deadset on buying another board for light conditions, say 10-14 knts why not look at something that is going to plane in a dogsfart. Something like 130-140l. Why bust your arse on a 120 as it is so close to your 107. Might as well make it as easy to get going as possible, as soon as the bay chops up at around 15 knts then go to your 107.

Xcite for sure, rode the Futura and found it a yawn vs the Xcite, bought the Xcite and have loved it every time i get on it - sounds wrong....
