Just used for the first time today the aeron v grip boom, and it was wicked. Super stiff and really quite comfortable in the hands.

The aeron v grip boom is a 26mm diameter tube with like ice cream cone extension added on to create a cross cut which sorta looks like this <o hence the name a v grib boom.

The biggest difference i noticed to the standard shaped boom is the way your hands sit around the tubing, it feels very odd at first and then it warms on you. I noticed i could easily catch the rig with two fingers purely because of the way its shaped alows you superb grip.

Also even knowing the boom is alluminium it actually feels just as stiff as a carbon boom. I have been told this is due to the v tubing.

After 10hrs of sailing in like 25 to 30 today i found it very hard to fault. I will be using one for the next twelve days in Penghu so i will keep you posted on how it goes considering at some stage i will be using it in 40 Knots

heard all good things about this boom, there was talk of issues with negotiating import price which is why their arrival in aus was stalled(so I heard)... would love to get my hands on one to see how it is for real.....

Nah. We had all sorts of odd shaped booms 30 years ago (elliptical profiles, Z-booms). It's just introducing unnecessary complexity. KISS It's not that hard and unusual shaped booms are solving a problem that doesn't really exist.

The most important thing is to have a light touch. That is less fatiguing so you can ride longer and more easily.

The RRP on the 140-190 and 160-190 is $415. The 180-230 and 200-250 is $435.
12 months warranty from date of purchase. Haven't had any issues with them as yet.

I'm glad this boom has had good reviews from everyone so far. After renting equipment for several months and then trialling the V-Grip, I was sold immediately and insisted on one (160-210cm) when I purchased my first rig last year. I suppose as you get better, 'holding on' becomes less and less important but as a beginner with a biggish sail (6.5m), even with big hands, I find it so much easier and less strenuous than traditional round booms.
