im after a 5.8m wave sail
this sail will be used in winds of 15 knots and no stronger than 18 knots
im currently using ezzy sails
ive used the 4.2, 5.0 and 5.2
i originally want to stay with ezzy but heard that the bottom end of the bigger sails isnt that crash hot as this will be the deciding factor of choice of sail because of the light wind use and wanting to get on the plain quickly
did i just make any sense
im keen to try out the severnes

I have an 05 Ezzy 5.8 and find fine in 15+ knts, before that i had a 6m north slalom sail and although not quite as powerful the S.E has a much better wind range and will get u planing in 15knts no worries, btw im 80kg and sail a 105lt freeride board.

I am using the KA Kult 5.8m

Its a great sail with heaps of grunt (with a huge wind range) its got plenty of x-ply and all that stuff to make it nice and durable. and wont set you back a fortune (it's an aussie company as well!)

What is the point of your statement?
The company may be registered in oz but the gear is still made overseas just like the rest!

I've a got quiver of Tushingham sails 4.5 - 5.0 - 5.5 awesome wind range on all sails.
I weigh 70Kg and can plane when most guys are on 6.0's
Very strong sails all have handled anything Scarb's and big Lano can throw at it.
Tushingham would have to **** them up big time to make me buy anything else

Greeny go the tushingham I,ve had em for 4 years now, They have such a wide wind range, They feel like your sailing with a feather eg no over powered feeling just total control. They will increase your learning curve due to ease of use wind range and ability to stand up to the wipe out you'll experience. I've got to try out a lot of other brands and I've yet to sail a better wave sail! (I'm always on the look out for one)

as you know i use arrows impacts. i personaly think that they are very powerful for their given size through out the range. i haven't used the new ones but i would think that the look is the major change with them. there sail have a destinct feel through out the range from all the different ones thet i have had/used.
probably a 5.3/5.4 would be closer to the mark for what you would need for light wind (you fether weight you!!)
as for the tushie, well they arn't quite as powerfull as the arrows, but for someone your size this is probably irrelivant.they would feel a little more ight and smooth for your body weight.not to mention the fact that the really do have the wind range that the others talk about, as well as being as strong as the ezzys that you curently use. dont really know if they have any more grunt then them though. they are quite good these days as many ezzy users would also say.
lose that 5.0 mate. 4.2, 4.7, 5.3/5.4/(5.5 rock)mabey and go biger than 6.0 for the very very light stuff that you wand to go out in mate.

The arrows impact in the last two years has become more powerful and the feedback from sailors is that they can be used one size down than normal due to the power, but is very light in manoeuvers. The impact has not got the same wide wind range of the tushingham rock which can cope with big gusts. The rock is smoother overall as it absorbs the bumps in choppy water giving a more balanced ride. This is really noticable in places like scarbs where you bounce everywhere because of the chop. Unlike other brands, the tushingham has a big range of settings so you can tune the sails to the conditions and different masts. Some sails have to be set one way to work or on specific masts. There is no such thing as a bad sail these days, just different feels between them so we recommend you demo a sail to see if it feels how YOU like it.

At last point you may consider is do you want a sail to get planing on flatter days or to sloggout and ride waves. I find that new stubbie boards don't need big sails if you are wave riding, but planning at dutchies is different.

I have a Gaastra Poison 5.8 (which is for sale BTW) which is quite a grunty sail but depowers really easy as it rigs flat on the beach. Just set the DH and play with OH to tune the power. Really well built sail all X ply, nice fittings and abbrasion patches. It has a much longer boom than the average(about 8cm) which hasn't been a problem in fouling the water (but I don't go in anything big). The longer boom does seem to make it more balanced in free ride conditions. The only minor criticism is that the doesn't have a really locked in feel, the power moves around a little bit depending how loose the OH is set.

As i am a poor, i generally just buy whatever sail i can get cheap at the time so have experience with quiet a few brands, but not all in the 5.7/5.8 range. Personally from a lightweights perspective (70kg)i reckon this is a bit big to be practical. 5.3 for me works well in the waves.

I had a severne s1 5.7 for a while. Main issue about this sail i had was the luff sleeve. Just tore really easy, even when rigging you had to be really careful. I've also seen the same problem with one of my mates sails and i don't think they've improved it. This sail had a heap of top end wind range, felt really stable, rigged on a 4 metre but just felt a little too big. I think other than the luff sleeve this sail is made well and will hold together okay as long as you don't give it too much sun. Also had the advantage of feeling pretty good even on my main board which is 70L due to its lightweight (rigged on 400 skinny). I didn't find it to have a lot of low end grunt.

Also had a 5.3 Ka Kaos. I really liked this sail, and definetly would buy again. Cheap, tough and good wind range. In the end i gave away this sail as i couldn't justify replacing another panel which would have meant only one of the original remained! (This was mostly due to me leaving it out on in the sun and drying it on the washing line! i was only about 14 at the time and didn't know any better)

Currently using a 5.4 Neil pryde core, feels like **** but i do have it rigged on the wrong mast so it's not a fair judgement. Really bad wind range and i've always been skeptical on neilpryde construction. I think the Search and Zone are both much better sails, but hey i got it cheap!

Also have a arrows impact (2001 so a bit old). This is pretty powerful but has a good wind range. i really like this one as well.

A 2000 North Voodoo, tough but ****house performance is the only way to describe.

And finally, i have my good old ezzy 4.7, the survivor of my quiver, also from 2001. This use to be my favourite, but i've gone off it a bit lately. As you said greenroom, the bottom end is pretty average and although they have apparently improved i'm pretty sure they still won't compete with too many other brands power wise. All round its okay, main advantage is its strong.

Hope this helps, out of the sails i've tried i'd go KA for value for money, but really like the arrows impact as well. Also i checked out the SOS sail, worth a look, i got a brand new select fin for 75 bucks.
