The new 2017 jp superlight wind looks quite different to the 2016 and 2015 models. The jp video shows it really powered up in a quite breezy conditions, not what it is really designed for. I am sure for most of us we have a nice board for powered up conditions and slw is for light days to get more time on the water. So jp, how about showing us how to pump it onto the plane in super light wind with a big rag, at least 9.5m.

if this 2017 really is substantially faster and has a lower wind requirement than the 2015 slw i will be impressed, it already a mind bending experience.

Any hands on reports (especially in actual light wind and not a hawaii trade wind) eagerly awaited.

In the fanatic light wind thread bsn101 asked about the new tail shape on the 2017 jp slw. Weirner from jp would be the one to answer this but my 2c worth, without the benefit of riding the new one is he has probably got it right. The 2017 has a wide outline for the feet and a pintail type bottom shape which in theorey might give a higher top speed and better control.The 2015 has a wide bottom shape all the way back to a very big cutout. I would love to try the new one. But what we dont see is the rocker shape, v and concaves, all of which are as important or more than the tail shspe and cut outs.

the nose looks blunter but that is probably because its shorter.

at least they didnt just change the graphics and say its 30% faster.

I love it and I want one. Don't be deceived by the cutouts that thing has a lot of power in the tail just look how wide it is at the front straps. My SLW is a 2012 and it shows the 2017 looks ultra modern compared to my station wagon. The SLW has always been not just a light wind niche board but a fun freeride board in it's own right. That's why I use mine in up to 15 knots sometimes it's just a nice board to go sailing on. At marmong the north easterly breezes can get gusty at times and add to that 77 power boats chopping it up that's when I pull out the SLW it glides over the chop and through the lulls. It turns rubbish into fun for me.

Whats the smallest & largest sails you use with it?
The vid shows 6.7 V8 & EVO of 7.8 or so.

9.6 and 8.6 but usually the 8.6. Gybing is more fun with the smaller rig.
