There is some pretty nice new boards out this year from JP, in the groovy large wave board category. The Surf FX boys put in a request for another larger size too, a 109 or thereabout, which they will probably get.
The 99L and 93L ones will be awesome on the GC.

there is something special about custom boards still for me. yes it takes longer but the process and outcomes i really enjoy. funny thing about production boards. i like JP, have always enjoyed sailing the ones i've tried. but for some reason all of the production boards i own or have owned are RRD.

that is a prelim 2d autocad drawing. i was just working through the dimensions. it's based on my current 125lt voodoo and the stuff learned through versions 1 & 2.

rocker will be very similar. petes rocker lines are fantastic. i've been talking to him about a few very minor rocker tweaks so the smaller version has a little more wave bias. i'm trying to get a copy of the 3d scan of the 125lt board so i can amend that. otherwise i will just print paper templates. like my 125lt board this one would be a single/tri convertible

graphics will be very similar. i'm trying to work up a theme between all the boards. there are a couple of ideas i mucked around with on my 125lt board that didn't make the cut but i've recently had some thoughts on how to progress them.

whether it's skulls or similar i'm not sure yet. part of the process of designing a board is to also develop a graphics application method for the design. i'm tinkering with stamps where as to date all boards have been templated and sprayed.

to be honest though. not sure if it will be built anytime soon. after upgrading all of my sails and getting the 125lt there's no cash left to get protos built.

that and i'm not sure if a 10' wave sup or a 100lt freewave would be a better purchase for me.

3d scan? like laser tomography (if that's the right term)?

yep, 3d laser scan. then the model can be refined by pc or the original scan sent to the cnc machine. after that the concaves and blank finishing is hand done. then the vac bagging done. as per all production boards.

prototype boards and custom jobs are still template cut and hand shaped but he is moving into full 3d for refinements. once a proto ticks all of the boxes it is scanned for cnc mill copies. he is always testing new designs. every time i see him he has a new board.

rocker will be as per 125lt board. i'm toying with tweaking it slightly towards the surf more with maybe 2mm more tail kick and 10-20mm more nose kick. so a freestyle board with a wave bias as opposed to a freestyle wave board.

so bottome shape is single concave into spiral V into flat V. same rail shape as current board also as they work exceptionally well.

eta. hmm. not sure. i showed the plan shape to pete today and he thinks it's very good. i'm trying to wheel and deal this one.

Nah, I'm still part-time.
Must admit, I had a great RRD board a few years ago that I loved.
I talked to the Surf FX guys about RRD and why they dropped them, and it was basically that the graphics were too polarising, and affected re-sale too much.
Ironically, this year, the RRD graphics are much more conservative, and I think the JP ones will not appeal to a lot of the older, conservative windsurfing demographic.
I just really enjoyed the new single fin thruster line of JP wave-boards, in all sizes, so yeah, I'm probably pimping them a bit.
Solid re-sale is not the be-all end-all, but still very nice to have when you go to sell or upgrade.

hey swoosh, i missed this comment the first time round.

it made me check a few of the other manufacturers positions. and the answer is yes and no. they are all different but roughly range between 1200-1300 to the back of the track. freestyle boards seem to be more around 1200 and freewave boards the more traditional 1250.

it could maybe come back 25mm or so. i find with petes boards i always set my 2 bolt base plate so the rear bolt is at the back of the track. oither use single bolt bases and have more room to play with.

Missed that one. I have not seen any pics posted by Ian or Michael, apart from the towel abuse one.
I don't know who took the pics posted by windaddict.
I've not talked to them much about Starboard.

I saw it 2009 . A custom board with rider having first go at Caloundra Bullcock Beach. Poor bloke had to put in his ute and go due fin box being stoved over. Never seen such disappointment in a guy. He was a bit cranky to put it mildly. Never did find out how he went with warranty.

What do they have? Same as production? Replacment or repair? Is there a policy?

It would be nice to know for those are thinking the custom option.

i guess it depends on board builder. would be important to ask the question. important to ask that question when buying any gear though regardless of who or where it comes from.
