Not me, I'll be working from 24/12 to 18/1/09 in Ingham. I thought about taking sailing gear, but the idea of crocs and stingers put me off.

ok, the 26th. does that make sense. forecast looks good. seems like pumping northerlies. either that or flooding still a long way off.

also, cheers ian, i won a bet on your response.

Would that be the "I've got the day off, so there bloody well better be wind" forecast ?
Still a few sleeps to go, so I'm not rigging a sail just yet.

You bet that some sad act would claim to be planning a sail on Xmas day?

I'm planning a sail on XMAS day as well, either on the Catamaran or on the Windsurfer - depending on wind strength.

Kind of a XMAS tradition at our place - a sail on XMAS day followed by XMAS dinner at night.

well,

the extended familly has decided this year will not see the usual family get together.

my response was, "great, might get to go sailing on xmas day this year"

that was met by extended silence.

eventually my extremely better half says, "blah blah blah, why don't you see if your seabreeze budies are going sailing on xmas day. i bet none of them would do such a thing."

i urged her not to make me ask the question as she would not like the responses.

Ha ha! I'm visiting family for Xmas, at Redcliffe!

Let's see:

1. Open pressies;
2. Eat chocolate sultanas;
3. Have lunch;
4. Eat more chocolate sultanas;
5. Sneak off for a couple of hours bump and jump while the others sleep off lunch.

The perfect Xmas and everyone's happy!

anyone seen the forecasts. i sit here evedryday scouring the internet for something, a little green, a predicted low, i'll even take a seabreeze.

but nothing,

it's starting to hurt! i hate xmas! where's the frickin wind! all i get is weeks and weeks of changing models and red bloody arrows!

my wife tells me it's karma because i said i wanted to go on xmas day!

think i'll hide all of the xmas presents from under the tree just for fun now.

it's a pretty sad looking forecast. I bought myself presents to compensate :D but what i really want is some wind to test em in!!

fingers crossed for a week of 25kts+ like last year.

Haven't you heard of the summer doldrums ??

No wind now until Feb, unless a low happens.
I'm off the grid from tomorrow an yway, until the 11th, so I don't care. Won't get a park at Currumbin now for a few weeks anyway.

Haha what a topic. Fortunately for me my family have decided about 10 years ago to have Xmas day (and two weeks either side) by the shores of lake cootharaba. Thus meaning my sail is already rigged for the first sign of breeZe! Xmas day or not!!!

Tide goes in/out the seaway, about three clicks to the SE. Best on a SE.

doldrums?

not the last 4-5 seasons, this time of year has been the windest. actually we've had nearly nonstop SE's through this period normally. la nina was good. and also had a few cyclones.

el nino prob not as good but we still have the seabreezes. fingers crossed for a cyclone.

i've tried to find info on what it all means but not had much luck, sea temps are very very high at the moment. that would suggest that local seabreezes won't be as good.

this time of year and into next year is our normal trade winde SE's season. there doesn't seem to be many lows around north qld so i'm guessing if that continues the SE winds won't be as strong as they have been.

time will tell i guess as i am not really sure. in my mind it means global warming.

It has been good lately. Really good. In fact my most commonly used over the last month, by far, has been a 5.4.

Cheer up: generally speaking those 15 NE/seabreeze predictions have been turning into 5.4 conditions more often than not.

Disclaimer: Not sure about those rain clouds though.
