hey all, my name is alec, im 17 and ive been windsurfing for about a season and a half, really enjoying it. I'm comfortably in the harness sailing in around 15-25 knots but still going through the painful stage of learning to gybe properly. I live in northside Brisbane but i usually, accompanied with my father, go to what i believe is known as 'the train' on the gold coast. I think ive become addicted, i always find myself drifting off onto windsurfing videos during class and just reading up on technique and what not. Anyways i thought i would just get myself involved with the seabreeze community. Hope to see some of you out there in the near future.

Its a great sport, there are some great people about involved with windsurfing, and everyone i have come across on the GC are only too happy to give advice.

Mate you have just taken me back 20 years.

I was exactly the same, I started at 14 and by the time I was 17 I lived and breathed windsurfing. Getting my parents to take me to the water whenever possible, saving up for new gear, hanging out at the local custom board builders factory (there were a few custom guys on the coast back then) when there was no wind, oh and wagging a bit school. I was fortunate to live walking distance from a surf beach that could be sailed in the right direction, so used to carry my gear down as well.

Keep at it mate, read up on the gybe and many will say it is still one of the more difficult moves to execute well. I think everyone blows them from time to time. Oh and get yourself a set of wheels, cheap rust bucket with racks and you will see yourself progress once you don't have to rely on the generosity of your parents.

yeh, no other sport compares to windsurfing. most of the kiters i see out are cashed up wankers who dont know what their doing, but hey i guess im just being a little too judgmental. unfortunately i cant get down there on thursday due to transport issues, so im skipping school tomorrow and try my luck with our new 7m sail, as apposed to the 5.7 naish wave sail i usually use. but thanks for the responses, i hope to keep on sailing till i retire, and then some more.
