Made a 'sales' call on way home to Sunny Coast today (Tuesday) just happened to have toys in the car! Aim was to sail 'Woody Point' at redcliffe , never sailed there before..its looked like a good potential flat water slalom run the wind was light and patchy near shore, but heaps in the middle of the bay and pretty flat water ...decent long runs looked like a better option that dodging sand banks at Golden Beach!
NO ONE was sailing there? (I was so tempted even a channel 10 new crew there!) but looked at the rocks on the shoreline etc and thought maybe there was something I didnt know?, eg shallow , rocks etc, so I took the safe option!
There was a some one sailing around the corner at Margate in good B&J conditions, having a blast, but too lumpy for slalom gear.

Anytips for this area? Does it work or not? Any Issues? I was basically looking at the Spot opposite the Belvedere Pub.

Tried this a few times and its cost me a fin or two at low tide but i think it has great potential in a se/sw 15+. I think the best place to sail from is pelican park as there is a grass rigging area and a beach to launch from, the water is a little deeper here. Be warned there are plenty of reefs out there in the area from Pelican park looking directly to woody point. Most of the locals i know dont bother sailing here in winter, they wait for the good se and usually sail Queens. Im keen to sail Woodys as its local, let me know if your heading there.

Some people sometimes sail there, but maybe not often. Most locals sail bump and jump and prefer Margate or Queens. The water off Woody Point (I think you really mean Humpybong) isn't that much flatter than the other spots and the water not as clean. It's the mouth of the Pine River after all...

At lower tides the launch out from the Humpybong Yacht club is quite shallow for a fair way out so you're likley to ding your fin going out and coming in. There's often fishing lines streaming off the jetty, I have snagged these before in my boat.

Some launch from Pelican Park at Clontarf but in a SE that will carry you down to the bridge and sandbanks a little, but like I say some people do it so it's probably not that bad.

I don't see any real reason why you shouldn't experiment with sailing there though, given what I have said. It may just be habit that sees most windsurfing at other beaches and a preference for cleaner water.

I have sailed there the first time on some old gear not long after my transplant, my reasons were basicly flat water for learning to sail again, it was se. It and pelican park as lee said is sometimes ok in a sw but not often. I think yesterday would have been good as there was more s in the direction, check the time lapse pics on the woody point web cam, seemed to be small white caps everywhere.
As lee and ikw said most people who sail Redcliffe sail bump n jump conditions around the front. High tide would make a good beginners area, gentle breeze in close and fairly flat water.

I've sailed there a few times in a SW and W before. Not a bad spot in these wind directions.

Not sure I'd bother in any other wind directions though. Would rather go around the corner to Margate or Queens
