Was there a few days ago (wivenhoe lake/damn), on a sunny day! Place is nice, and decent.

Water seemed warmish, there was a bit of wind on the water, (like 8 knots) it wasn't gusty. Seems like a potential for those west?

I was wondering, has anyone sailed there? Do we know what direction works there? Is it gusty etc etc etc.

Don't know much about it... I suspect it would work in westerlies? As they seem stronger out west :).

Any info would be great.

I sailed there a few times in the early 90's, launched from the picnic area/boat ramp (Hay's Landing?) on the eastern side. From memory it was a bit on the gusty side for SE'ly.

Westerlies are gusty anyway on the coast so I would suspect the eastern side of Wivenhoe may be as good as, say Wello, for such conditions.

Hadn't considered again since low dam water levels for some time, but did actually think about it again last year. I reckon I will give it a go this year.

Hays Landing (Eastern side) is now closed to the public, only access is via a locked gate. Members of the Sailing Club and Fishing Club have keys. Works in a southerly and westerly. Haven't tried it in a northerly but I suspect it may be in a wind shadow.

Logans Inlet is public accessable (Western side) is ok in a northerly but pretty wind shadowed in anything else. Might be ok in a westerly but gusty as usual. Problem is that northerlies don't really get going till the afternoon and by the time they reach far enough inland, that's if they make it at all it can be late.

Only sailed there lately with the Sailing Club on a boat, wind can be really fickled.

To be honest it will be all west, or north west or south west for the next three months. If you live near the coast when it is NE or SE You have to head that way(to the coast). During the winter/colder months we have to look at alternatives, to be honest Wello is the place from May onwards SW To W and NW really funnels through there. Like to geT feed back on the Dam though dont hear much.

I appreciate the info guys! I think I'll give it a few goes and see how it works. I'll check it out in a few good westerlies, and some other directions and let you all know.

I'm living out more westish, so was thinking it might be worth while in winter for the guys out this side. Not so much travel, closer and since the sun goes down earlier, will get more hours in.. :P

Hopefully there are no suhc thing as crocodiles there????? Or objects in the water / shallows...
