Windsurfing fin flex

Broke a fin today without hitting anything though did notice weeks a small crack at the base (thought it was paint cracking). Maybe this is why it finally let go?

do you notice it is flexing the wrong way?? if sailing normal it would flex toward the wind, it flexes downwind so he must be pulling though the initial turn of a hard gybe, but it is amazing to see - is that why long course fins produce a lot of lift? they are curved under load & are like a hydrofoil?? I had no idea - what a great clip

Good quality formula fins are designed to flex like that down wind to let out some power, otherwise the board lifts up and spits you off, but i dont think it affects smaller fins.
