I have just moved up to Mackay from Adelaide and there seems to be a severe lack of windsurfers up here.

The beach is full of Kiters and I have only once seen a sail come ripping up from Illawong beach and back again.

Where is everyone?

Keen to get in touch and find out where the hot spots are for a session and leave town beach for the Kiters....

Luke.

Most of the guys will sail from Illawong Beach about an hour before and after high tide. With the big tides running to almost 6m, it can be a huge walk in from a low tide. The weather is predominately SE so from Illawong you will head straight out to East Point across the river. Sailpilot used to contribute regularly on this forum and would probably be the best to ask if he is still in the area.

Reporting for duty, ah yes been a bit slack lately. Trojan has been out a bit lately and yes the best consistent spot is Illawong, some guys go out in the northern beaches also. Send me a pm with a contact number and ill give you a ring when im heading out. All up there's only a few regulars these days, so good to see someone else in town.
Looks like you do some riding too by the avatar?

Just found kinchant dam on the weekend.... Looks like the ducks guts for some flat water blasting in a good wind....

Anyone sailed there much?

Any recommendation?

We would go there even in light wind for the Missus to get a windsurf in....

280L board and 4.4m sail.... It's more that there are no sharks in the dam.... :)

Ha, know the problem, if its not noahs its the stingers or the sea lice or the stone fish. Sheesh.
Anyway, sailed the dam plenty of times, gets a bit gusty if its very south due to the hills behind the dam, gets a little better with east in it but never as constant as the coast. Nice spot for the family, and a pub meal handy too. Also, I don't have a weed fin and often the dam gets bits of long stringy weed that stuff things up, having said that I have hit 30knots on the gps at the dam so its not all bad.

Got the pm, will give you a call when Im heading out next, maybe this weekend is looking good.

Just waiting for the wind gods now....
