On the up side I've learned to like riding big gear. Once you get over 8.5m it is really cruisy and suprisingly efficient. The water is relatively flat in the light winds so you don't have the resistance caused by the chop when using 6.5 - 8.0 sized sails.
Still prefer to be fully lit on a 5.4 but any time on the water is good.
I agree, am i'm still getting out every 2-3 days and planing around happily (thank god or i'd be going insane)- if you want to sail in brissie you gotta have big gear

Anyway +6 I remember somewhere in the late 90's being a bit quiet on for wind, but then I stopped sailing regularly around the same time so probably wasnt so focused on it. Maybe it was around 14 years ago, without over-analysing it there is some coincidence in cycles & maybe it's made worse by climate change.
