but TODAY is the first day of summer. It's been blowing all night and is currently 15 knots ENE. So far summer has been great...Mind you Spring certainly sucked.

Yes,

December the first is the first day of summer so its probably a little too early to tell if this summer will be the worst on record.

Meanwhile Spring in Sydney was quite good. Lots of beautiful days with NE seabreezes. So far summer here has sucked with lots of rain.

+ 5 Ever the optimist I have to conceed I havent ever seen less wind here in the first three month of a season.

On the up side I've learned to like riding big gear. Once you get over 8.5m it is really cruisy and suprisingly efficient. The water is relatively flat in the light winds so you don't have the resistance caused by the chop when using 6.5 - 8.0 sized sails.

Still prefer to be fully lit on a 5.4 but any time on the water is good.

I gather that would make them "Wind mimes"
This song sums up the season quite aptly too.

I agree, am i'm still getting out every 2-3 days and planing around happily (thank god or i'd be going insane)- if you want to sail in brissie you gotta have big gear

Anyway +6 I remember somewhere in the late 90's being a bit quiet on for wind, but then I stopped sailing regularly around the same time so probably wasnt so focused on it. Maybe it was around 14 years ago, without over-analysing it there is some coincidence in cycles & maybe it's made worse by climate change.

I think I'm going too shift my sailing local, I figure it can't get worse than SEQ these last months. Just come back from work in Taiwan and seen a spot on the west coast they reckon blows its guts out pretty regular, at least they have a wind farm in close proximity to prove it! Chunan is the name and a local school + hire kit by the cool Tony Fish, seemed plenty of average surf and SUP to fill in no wind days. Blew my soxs off that the place even existed, but as I'm going to be spending plenty of time up there, might as well take advantage while up there plus the locals seem super happy to see some foreign interest in their little spot of paradise to boot.
